Philippine Airlines (PAL) is ramping up its Australia operations, announcing that flights between Manila and Melbourne will become daily starting November 19, 2026, giving travelers more options ahead of the busy year-end holiday season.
The flag carrier currently operates five flights per week on the Manila–Melbourne route. The increase to seven weekly flights represents a significant boost in service and is expected to provide additional capacity for both passengers and cargo.
New daily flight schedule
Under the expanded schedule, PAL flight PR 209 will depart Manila at 8:20 p.m. and arrive in Melbourne at 7:30 a.m. the following day.
The return service, PR 210, will leave Melbourne at 9:20 a.m. and arrive in Manila at 2:25 p.m. on the same day.
The additional flights are being introduced ahead of the year-end travel period, when demand typically increases as Filipinos travel for holidays, family visits and vacations.
More flights also mean more cargo capacity
The expansion is not only about giving passengers more choices.
PAL said the additional daily service will also create more cargo capacity, potentially helping Philippine exporters move goods between the Philippines and Australia while strengthening trade links between the two countries.
The move comes as PAL prepares to mark the 55th anniversary of its Melbourne service, highlighting the long-running connection between the Philippine flag carrier and the Australian city.
PAL strengthens its Australia network
Melbourne is part of a broader Australian network for PAL.
The airline also operates services to Sydney, Brisbane and Perth. GMA reported that Sydney and Brisbane are served daily, while Perth has three weekly flights under the current network.
Current PAL booking information also shows Melbourne–Manila and Manila–Melbourne itineraries available for travel around November, confirming that the route remains an active part of the airline’s international network.
Independent schedule data also reflects PAL’s ongoing adjustments to its Australia operations throughout 2026, underscoring that flight frequencies can vary by season and schedule period.
The expansion comes despite pressure on PAL
PAL’s decision to add Melbourne flights comes as the airline navigates higher operating costs.
GMA reported that PAL posted a $25.1-million net loss in the first half of 2026, with fuel expenses increasing by $219.5 million, which the carrier attributed to the impact of the conflict in the Middle East. PAL president Richard Nuttall said the situation had created significant short-term pressure on fuel costs while emphasizing the airline’s underlying resilience.
Despite those pressures, PAL has continued to expand capacity where it sees demand.
For the first quarter of 2026, the airline reported $78.77 million in net income, while passenger revenue increased 8.7% year-on-year to $759.65 million. PAL carried 4.30 million passengers during the quarter, up 6.1% from the same period a year earlier.
What this means for Filipino travelers
For passengers traveling between the Philippines and Melbourne, the biggest change is straightforward: there will be a PAL flight available every day of the week beginning November 19 instead of five weekly departures.
That additional frequency could make it easier for travelers to choose dates around school breaks, holidays, work schedules and family commitments.
Travelers should still check PAL’s official booking system for the exact operating date, fare, aircraft and availability because schedules and fares can change.
