Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang is set to attend a state dinner hosted by US President Donald Trump for Chinese President Xi Jinping, according to a person familiar with the plans.
The dinner is scheduled to take place in Washington on September 24, when Trump is also expected to meet Xi for talks. The gathering will bring together senior figures from government and business as the United States and China continue discussions on trade, technology and other areas of their relationship.
Huang’s expected attendance comes as Nvidia remains deeply involved in the global artificial intelligence industry. The company produces advanced semiconductors that are widely used to develop and operate AI systems.
Nvidia has also been closely connected to the US-China technology relationship because of Washington’s restrictions on the export of advanced AI chips to China. The rules have affected Nvidia’s ability to sell some of its most powerful products in the Chinese market.
Huang has previously participated in high-level meetings involving Trump and Xi. He joined Trump during the US president’s visit to China earlier this year and attended a dinner hosted by Xi.
The Nvidia CEO has also spoken publicly about the importance of maintaining access to the Chinese market, while the company continues to navigate US export controls and competition in the rapidly developing AI sector.
His participation in the upcoming dinner comes at a time when artificial intelligence has become an increasingly important part of the economic and technological relationship between Washington and Beijing.
The Trump-Xi meeting is expected to draw attention to a range of issues affecting the two countries, including trade, technology and semiconductor restrictions. Huang’s presence would place one of the world’s most prominent technology executives among the business leaders participating in the diplomatic event.
The White House has not publicly confirmed Huang’s attendance at the dinner. The planned event will be only the second state dinner hosted by Trump during his second term.
