Nine people were injured after a Malaysian Health Ministry van carrying trainee nurses overturned during a morning crash in Ipoh, Perak.
The accident happened at about 7.25am on Sept. 23 at the junction of Jalan Sultan Iskandar and Jalan Sultan Yussof. The van was carrying 11 people, including the driver, with most of the passengers trainee nurses from the Sultan Azlan Shah Institute for Health Training in Tanjung Rambutan. They were travelling to Buntong Health Clinic for practical training.
The van reportedly ended up on its driver’s side after the collision. Police said another vehicle was also involved and that investigations were continuing to establish the exact cause of the crash.
Earlier reports said nine people were injured, while later information from the Health Ministry indicated that those involved were examined and treated at the Emergency and Trauma Department of Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh. The ministry said it was monitoring their condition and providing support to those affected.
Police said preliminary investigations were examining the circumstances surrounding the collision at the traffic-light junction. The Star reported that police believed the van may have proceeded through the intersection without obeying the traffic light, but the investigation remains ongoing.
The incident has prompted renewed attention to road safety as the trainee nurses were travelling for their practical training when the crash occurred. Authorities have urged motorists to follow traffic signals and road regulations while the investigation continues.
