Israeli airstrikes on a village in southern Lebanon killed 12 people, including two children, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry.
The strikes hit Kfar Roummane overnight on Sept 7, with one attack destroying a building and killing 11 people. Eight others were wounded, including three children and a paramedic.
The Health Ministry said four women were among those killed in the attack. Another person was killed in a separate strike in the area, bringing the reported death toll to 12.
The Israeli military said it was carrying out operations against Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon. Israel has continued military activity in the region despite a US-brokered ceasefire framework.
The strikes came days after Israel’s military said it had established “operational control” over the strategic Ali Taher hill, which overlooks several villages and roads leading toward Nabatiyeh.
Lebanese officials have accused Israel of escalating attacks in the south and violating the ceasefire arrangements. Israel, meanwhile, has said its operations are aimed at preventing Hezbollah from rebuilding military infrastructure.
The latest violence has added to concerns about the durability of the ceasefire and the safety of civilians living in southern Lebanon, where many residents have already been displaced by months of fighting.
The United States and other parties have been involved in efforts to maintain the ceasefire and negotiate arrangements for Israeli forces to withdraw and Hezbollah to reduce its military presence in the area.
The renewed strikes come as tensions remain high across the region, with both Israel and Hezbollah continuing to face pressure to prevent a broader escalation.
