NHA TRANG, Vietnam — The Dominican Republic has a new global queen.
Joheirry Mola Dominguez was crowned Miss World 2026 on Saturday, September 5, at the 75th-anniversary edition of the prestigious international pageant in Nha Trang, Vietnam, emerging on top of a field of 111 contestants from around the world.
Mola Dominguez succeeded Thailand’s Opal Suchata Chuangsri, who made history in 2025 as the first Thai woman to win the Miss World title.
The victory capped a month-long Miss World festival in Vietnam centered on the organization’s “Beauty With a Purpose” philosophy, which places emphasis not only on pageant performance but also on contestants’ advocacy, communication skills, community involvement and social impact.
A Dominican queen with a purpose
Mola, 24, arrived at Miss World 2026 with a background that extended well beyond modeling.
According to the official Miss World profile, she holds a degree in Business Management and Administration from Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE) and works as a Literature and Social Studies teacher, news correspondent and professional model. She is also the founder and president of Voices of Tomorrow, an initiative focused on expanding educational opportunities for children and young people in vulnerable communities.
Her work in education and communication became a defining part of her Miss World journey.
She has also worked as a correspondent for Univision New York’s Ventana a Quisqueya, using journalism to highlight Dominican culture, community stories and social issues.
Her advocacy record continued during her reign as Miss World Dominican Republic, including involvement in children’s programs and community initiatives. The Miss World organization has highlighted her work with children and her participation in a UNICEF-supported telethon that raised millions for programs involving children’s health, education and protection.
She entered the final with an early advantage
Mola’s road to the crown was already gaining momentum before coronation night.
She secured a place in the Top 40 through the Top Model challenge, representing the Americas and Caribbean region. The Dominican Republic was among the continental Top Model winners, giving Mola an automatic place in the quarterfinals.
The 2026 Miss World format was notably different from a traditional pageant progression. The 111 contestants were divided into four continental regions, with the competition narrowing through the Top 40, Top 20, Top 12 and Top 6 before the final winner and two runners-up were selected.
Mola survived each critical stage before ultimately becoming the final woman standing.
Spain and Malaysia complete the top three
Mola was joined in the final three by Elisabeth Reynés of Spain, who was named first runner-up, and Taanusiya Chetty of Malaysia, who finished as second runner-up.
The Top 6 also included representatives from Eritrea, Vietnam, the Dominican Republic, Spain, Malaysia and South Africa, underscoring the increasingly global reach of the competition.
Vietnam’s Le Nguyen Bao Ngoc also made history for the host country by reaching the Top 6, its strongest showing in the 2026 competition.
Philippines’ Asia Rose Simpson reaches Top 12
For Filipino pageant fans, the night also brought a strong performance from Asia Rose Simpson, the Philippines’ representative.
Simpson advanced through the Top 40 and Top 20, eventually making the Top 12 before her Miss World journey ended ahead of the Top 6.
Her run included several notable moments during the Vietnam festival, including recognition connected to her Beauty With a Purpose project and her performance in the Dances of the World presentation.
Although she fell short of the crown, Simpson’s Top 12 finish kept the Philippines among the strongest-performing countries on the Miss World stage this year.
A historic Vietnam finale
The 2026 competition was particularly significant because Vietnam hosted Miss World for the first time.
The grand finale was staged at 2 April Square in Nha Trang, where thousands of spectators gathered for the 75th-anniversary celebration. The outdoor program was briefly disrupted by heavy rain before continuing.
The pageant’s anniversary edition brought together 111 national representatives for a festival that included cultural events, advocacy activities and multiple competitive challenges before the final coronation.
And when the final announcement came, it was the Dominican Republic’s Joheirry Mola Dominguez who stood beneath the spotlight.
Her victory now places her at the center of the Miss World movement for the coming year — carrying not only the blue crown, but also a platform built around education, communication, community service and opportunity for young people.
The message from Vietnam was clear: Miss World 2026 has a new queen — and her story goes far beyond the crown.
