The Department of Health Davao Region (DOH-Davao) recorded 10,808 cumulative dengue cases from January 4 to September 5, 2026, a slight 1.2 percent decline from the 10,936 cases recorded during the same period last year.
Despite the year-to-date decrease, health officials warned the public against becoming complacent, noting that dengue cases have shown a recent uptick.
Cases increased by 1.6 percent to 1,339 from August 9 to 22, compared with 1,318 cases recorded from July 26 to August 8.
DOH-Davao Medical Officer III Dr. Frances Therese Reyes emphasized that fogging alone is not enough to control dengue because it primarily kills adult mosquitoes. She said communities must continue removing mosquito breeding sites through regular cleaning and proper disposal of containers that can collect stagnant water.
The health agency reiterated its enhanced 4Ts strategy: Taob, Taktak, Tuyo, and Takip. Residents are encouraged to empty water-holding containers, dispose of items that collect water, keep surroundings dry, and properly cover stored water.
Health officials also reminded residents to scrub water containers thoroughly because mosquito eggs can remain attached to their surfaces even after the water has been emptied.
With changing weather conditions and rainfall creating potential breeding areas, DOH-Davao continues to urge communities to maintain dengue prevention efforts despite the slight decline in cases.
