Public information officers in Davao de Oro have strengthened their skills in Gender and Development (GAD) communication, with a focus on using gender-fair, sensitive and inclusive language when delivering government information.
The training was held as part of the Davao de Oro League of Information Officers (DDOLIO) Coordination Meeting on September 16, 2026, at Tres Marias Beach Resort in Pantukan.
One of the key sessions, titled “Gender-Fair Language: Communicating with Inclusion and Sensitivity,” was led by Engr. Melina C. Avila, a member of the Philippine Commission on Women’s National GAD Resource Pool.
The session highlighted the responsibility of government information officers in communicating programs and services to communities. Participants were encouraged to use language that avoids stereotypes and exclusion while making clear that public services are intended for everyone.
The training also emphasized the practical application of gender-fair communication in government work, including the preparation of press releases, social media content, information and education materials and public advisories.
The Provincial Government of Davao de Oro supported the activity as part of efforts to build the capacity of government communicators. Pantukan Mayor Oliver “Noy” Ceniza also welcomed the participants and supported the municipality’s role as host.
The activity involved the Provincial GAD Center, headed by Kristine Caballero-Rañon. The Gender and Development Focal Point System and the center work to mainstream GAD principles in public service by strengthening the knowledge and skills of government personnel.
The initiative underscores the role of information officers in making government communication more inclusive and accessible, while helping communities better understand public programs and services.
