South Korean actor Byeon Woo-seok gave Singapore fans more than they expected during his sold-out fan meeting on Sept 18, stepping away from the stage and walking into the audience to greet fans at close range.
The actor, who rose to international fame as Ryu Sun-jae in the 2024 hit drama Lovely Runner, returned to Singapore two years after his first fan meeting in the city. This time, he brought his 2026 Asia Fanmeeting Tour, The Secret Library, to The Star Theatre.
The 2½-hour show looked back at different stages of Woo-seok’s acting career while giving fans plenty of personal interaction. He opened with a performance of Flower Road by Daybreak before singing Sudden Shower, the beloved Lovely Runner OST associated with his character Sun-jae.
Later, he performed No Fate from the same drama before making an unexpected move that sent the audience into a frenzy.
After finishing the song, Woo-seok left the stage and walked through the first-floor stalls, stopping to greet fans, make hearts and take selfies with some lucky audience members. He later explained that he could not visit the upper levels because of safety concerns, but continued interacting with fans from the stage.
The difference from his previous Singapore appearance was noticeable. Woo-seok said that he had been extremely nervous during his 2024 fan meeting because he was still adjusting to the sudden attention that came with Lovely Runner’s success.
Two years later, he said he felt more comfortable and was trying to look at and connect with individual fans as much as possible. His relaxed personality was also evident during games and question-and-answer segments, including reenactments of scenes from some of his earlier acting projects.
Fans also got to see his playful side during a cooking segment in which he prepared Korean-style egg rolls for three audience members. The attempt included spilled ingredients, eggshells that had to be removed and ketchup hearts that did not quite turn out as planned.
But the biggest surprise came after the concert.
Fans gathered outside the Star Vista car park hoping to catch another glimpse of the actor as he left. According to reports, some waited for nearly two hours in the heat before Woo-seok appeared shortly after midnight.
Rather than simply leaving, he walked closer to the waiting crowd, waved and thanked them. He also rolled down the window of his van for one final goodbye. Some fans had travelled from Malaysia and Thailand specifically for the Singapore event.
Woo-seok’s Singapore visit also came shortly after his appearance in Perfect Crown, in which he starred alongside IU. The drama marked another major project following the success of Lovely Runner, while his next major acting role is expected to be in Netflix Korea’s live-action adaptation of Solo Leveling, in which he plays Sung Jin-woo.
From Sun-jae’s romantic songs to an unexpected walk through the audience, The Secret Library became more than a conventional fan meeting. For Singapore’s Tong Tongs, it was a chance to see a star who appeared more confident, more relaxed and willing to get closer to the people who helped make his rise possible.
And after the long wait outside the venue, some fans got one final memory they probably did not expect — seeing Byeon Woo-seok come back out just to say goodbye.
