CEBU CITY — At only 10 years old, Adrianna Erika Ching is already making a name for herself as one of Cebu’s promising young swimmers—and her latest breakthrough is taking her from regional competition to the national stage.
The Grade 4 swimmer from Cebu City has continued to turn heads with a string of strong performances in 2026, highlighted by gold-medal finishes, international success and a standout showing in the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA).
Her rise has been particularly impressive because Ching is competing against some of the strongest young swimmers in the region while balancing school and the demanding training schedule required of a competitive athlete.
Three golds helped punch her ticket to Palaro
Ching delivered one of her biggest performances at the 2026 CVIRAA swimming competition held March 23 to 25 at the Cebu City Sports Center.
Representing Cebu City, she captured three gold medals—winning the 400-meter freestyle, 100-meter butterfly and the 4×50-meter freestyle relay in the elementary division. Her performance helped Cebu City dominate the elementary swimming competition with eight gold medals, seven silver medals and seven bronze medals.
The result also earned the young swimmer a place in the Palarong Pambansa, giving her an opportunity to compete on one of the country’s biggest school-sports stages.
Ching herself described the achievement as something she had not expected to accomplish so early in her elementary-school career.
She was already winning outside the Philippines
Ching’s CVIRAA success was not an isolated performance.
Earlier in 2026, she made waves internationally at the Asian Open Schools Invitational Long Course Swimming Championships in Bangkok, Thailand, where she competed against swimmers from 21 Asian countries.
According to MYTV Cebu, Ching collected nine medals—three gold, five silver and one bronze—and finished as the second Top Swimmer in the girls’ 10-year-old category. Her gold medals came in the 100-meter butterfly, 50-meter butterfly and 100-meter freestyle.
Philstar also listed Ching among the Filipino gold medalists at the Bangkok competition, identifying her as the winner of the girls’ 10-and-under 100-meter freestyle.
That international performance put her among a growing group of young Filipino swimmers beginning to make their presence felt beyond the country.
Her momentum continued after Palaro
Ching’s development has continued throughout the year.
Her swimming team, Hydro Immersion Swimming Team-Cebu, reported that she won a silver medal in the elementary girls’ 4×100-meter medley relay at the 2026 Palarong Pambansa in Agusan del Sur. The team said six of its swimmers made it to the Palaro that year, with four returning home with medals for Region 7.
She also continued to collect honors in subsequent meets.
At the Sandugo Swimfest 2026 in Tagbilaran City, Ching was recognized among the Most Outstanding Swimmers in the 10-11 age group and won the 11-and-under girls’ Skins Showdown.
In July, Childlink Homeschool Program also reported that Ching earned five gold medals at the Philippine Aquatics Incorporated Short Course Leg 1 competition.
From promising youngster to swimmer to watch
Ching’s rapid progress is becoming increasingly difficult to overlook.
Her achievements now span local, regional, national and international competitions, giving the young Cebuana valuable experience at an age when many swimmers are only beginning their competitive careers.
Her international results in Thailand, followed by her CVIRAA performance and Palarong Pambansa campaign, show a consistent pattern: Ching is not simply collecting medals—she is gaining experience against increasingly competitive fields.
For Cebu City, her emergence is another encouraging sign for the city’s swimming program and its pipeline of young athletes.
And for Ching, the next race could be another opportunity to show just how far a 10-year-old swimmer from Cebu can go.
The medals have already started piling up.
Now, the bigger question is how far this young Cebu swimming prodigy can take her talent on the national stage.
