A new chapter is unfolding for some familiar young stars as Ashley Sarmiento, Marco Masa, and Jenzel Angeles officially join the cast of Viu’s upcoming romantic comedy series “The Way Back to You.”
The three were confirmed as part of the ensemble after Sparkle GMA Artist Center shared photos from the project’s first story conference and script reading, signaling that production is moving closer to its September 2026 start.
They will join the series’ lead stars AZ Martinez, Ralph De Leon, and Michael Sager, who will portray the central trio Julia, Tristan, and Patrick.
A love triangle with a twist
At the heart of The Way Back to You is a complicated love triangle involving Julia, Tristan, and Patrick.
Rather than focusing only on romance, the story explores what happens when people return to the places—and the people—they once left behind.
The series is set in a fictional provincial town known for its onion farms. According to Viu’s description, the story examines the tension between first love and present-day relationships, as the characters reconnect with people and places from their past and confront feelings that may not have completely disappeared.
That hometown setting also gives the series a distinctly Filipino flavor, mixing romance and comedy with the sometimes awkward reality of coming home and encountering people you thought you had already moved on from.
Ashley and Marco reunite for another major project
For longtime viewers, the inclusion of Ashley Sarmiento and Marco Masa adds another layer of interest to the announcement.
Both actors began their careers as young performers and have continued building their careers as they transitioned into more mature roles. Their inclusion in a Viu Original alongside the younger stars of the Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab Edition generation gives the upcoming series an interesting mix of established young talent and emerging stars.
However, their specific character roles in The Way Back to You have not been publicly detailed in the reports available at the time of publication.
Jenzel Angeles is also part of the newly revealed cast, while GMA News reports that Tuesday Vargas and other performers will also appear in the series.
From PBB to a new love story
The three lead stars have a connection that fans will immediately recognize.
AZ Martinez, Ralph De Leon, and Michael Sager were previously housemates on “Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab Edition,” and The Way Back to You brings them together again—this time in a scripted romantic story.
AZ and Ralph previously appeared together in The Secrets of Hotel 88, while AZ and Michael also starred in the film Opposites Almost Attract.
Their reunion has already generated excitement among fans, particularly because the new series puts all three at the center of a love triangle.
Directed by JP Habac
Adding even more intrigue to the project is its director, JP Habac, the filmmaker behind the acclaimed romantic film I’m Drunk, I Love You.
The series is line-produced by Rein Entertainment, while award-winning writer and filmmaker Shugo Praico serves as Creative Head.
Production is scheduled to begin in September 2026, with The Way Back to You expected to premiere exclusively on Viu in the fourth quarter of 2026.
And this is where things get interesting…
The announcement has revealed the major players—but not everything about their characters or how they fit into the story has been disclosed yet.
That leaves fans with one big question:
Will the people from the characters’ past become the reason they finally find their way back to love—or the reason everything falls apart?
With Ashley Sarmiento, Marco Masa, Jenzel Angeles, AZ Martinez, Ralph De Leon, Michael Sager, and the rest of the ensemble now part of the project, The Way Back to You could be one of Viu’s most closely watched Filipino romantic series later this year.
For now, fans will have to wait until production begins in September—and until Viu reveals more about the characters whose arrival could completely change the love story.
One thing is already clear: some stories don’t simply end. Sometimes, they find their way back.
