He Entered A Binalbagan Pension House At Noon — Minutes Later, A Kabankalan City Employee Was Dead

BINALBAGAN, NEGROS OCCIDENTAL — What appeared to be an ordinary midday stay at a pension house ended in tragedy when a 57-year-old employee of the Kabankalan City Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (LDRRMO) suddenly collapsed and later died in Binalbagan, Negros Occidental.

The incident happened on September 8 at a pension house in Barangay Santo Rosario, according to the Binalbagan Municipal Police Station and reports from Panay News and Digicast Negros.

Police identified the victim only as alias “Ely,” a married resident of Barangay 1, Kabankalan City.

He arrived shortly before noon

According to the initial police account, the victim entered Villa Santa Maria pension house at approximately 11:45 a.m. and proceeded to a room.

About 20 minutes later, at around 12:05 p.m., a woman entered the establishment and went to the same room where the victim was staying, police said.

Then, just five to 10 minutes later, the victim suddenly collapsed on the floor.

A pension house employee immediately sought assistance, prompting personnel from the Binalbagan LDRRMO to respond.

Rescuers performed CPR

Responders administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) before rushing the victim to the Binalbagan Infirmary.

Despite the emergency response, the man was declared dead on arrival by the municipal health officer.

The initial medical finding was cardiac arrest, according to police and the two local news reports.

Police say he had a history of heart problems

Authorities said the victim had a history of heart problems.

His family subsequently declined a post-mortem examination, reportedly because they believed his death was connected to his existing medical condition.

Importantly, there is no verified report from the sources reviewed that the woman who entered the room was responsible for the death or that foul play occurred.

Digicast Negros specifically reported that authorities had not indicated any sign of foul play in the initial investigation.

Police are continuing to document the circumstances surrounding the incident.

What is known — and what is not

The sequence of events has attracted attention because the victim was found inside a pension-house room shortly after another person entered it.

However, the available police-based reports do not establish a criminal act, the identity of the woman, or any connection between her presence and the man’s death.

The reported medical finding remains cardiac arrest, while the family declined a post-mortem examination. Any claim going beyond those established facts would therefore be premature.
