DUMANGAS, ILOILO — A police buy-bust operation in Barangay Rosario, Dumangas, Iloilo led to the arrest of a 31-year-old man identified by authorities only as alias “Janjan,” after officers allegedly recovered around 70 grams of suspected shabu with an estimated standard drug price of ₱476,000.
The operation was conducted at about 7:45 p.m. on August 19, 2026, according to the initial report by Panay News. Police said the suspect was classified as a high-value individual (HVI) in the illegal drug trade.
Authorities reportedly recovered 13 plastic sachets containing the suspected illegal substance, including the sachet sold to a police poseur-buyer during the operation. Buy-bust money was also reportedly recovered.
Why the arrest matters
The case comes as law-enforcement agencies in Iloilo continue targeting individuals they classify as high-value suspects in the province’s illegal drug network.
Recent operations show that Dumangas has repeatedly figured in anti-drug operations involving sizeable quantities of suspected shabu. In July, police reported the arrest of two HVIs in Barangay Pulao, Dumangas, where approximately 75 grams of suspected shabu valued at ₱510,000 were seized.
In another Dumangas operation in 2024, police arrested a suspected street-level drug offender and recovered approximately 45 grams of suspected shabu valued at ₱304,000, according to SunStar Philippines.
The pattern is not limited to Dumangas. In March 2026, an Iloilo operation in Pavia resulted in the arrest of three suspects and the seizure of approximately 135 grams of suspected shabu valued at ₱918,000. Police identified the main target as an HVI and said investigators had conducted weeks of surveillance before the operation.
What happens next?
The arrest does not establish guilt. Alias “Janjan” remains a suspect, and the seized substance is described as suspected shabu pending the appropriate examination and legal proceedings.
Drug-related cases are generally prosecuted under Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, depending on the specific allegations and evidence presented by authorities. Previous Iloilo drug cases involving suspected shabu have resulted in charges under the same law.
For now, investigators will have to establish where the suspected drugs allegedly came from, whether the arrested individual was operating independently or as part of a larger network, and whether further arrests will follow.
One thing is already clear: the ₱476,000 seizure is another significant anti-drug operation in Dumangas—and authorities may now be looking beyond the person arrested to determine who else could be connected to the alleged supply chain.
