Sharon Cuneta Finally Breaks Silence on Kiko Pangilinan–Robin Padilla Clash: “Sa Amin, It’s a Non-Issue”

MANILA, Philippines — Sharon Cuneta is choosing not to add fuel to the much-talked-about clash between her husband, Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, and her former boyfriend, Senator Robin Padilla.

The Megastar addressed the issue during her guest appearance on Fast Talk With Boy Abunda, where she was asked about the memes and online reactions that followed the tense Senate confrontation involving the two lawmakers.

Rather than take sides, Cuneta kept her response brief.

“No comment,” she said when asked whether she laughed or became upset over the incident.

She then explained why she does not see the confrontation as a personal issue.

“Uy, ex ko. Uy, husband ko. Tapos na. It stops there. I don’t wanna comment, ’cause sa amin it’s a non-issue,” Cuneta said.

Her remarks effectively shut down speculation that the Senate confrontation had created tension involving her personally.

What happened between Kiko and Robin?

The controversy dates back to a heated exchange between Pangilinan and Padilla during a Senate plenary session in May 2026.

The two senators were discussing issues surrounding the International Criminal Court arrest warrant involving Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa when their exchange became tense.

Pangilinan insisted that he still had the floor after Padilla attempted to interject, prompting him to raise his voice and say, “I still have the floor!” Reports said the disagreement later continued during a suspension of the session.

The confrontation attracted even more attention because of the two senators’ connection to Cuneta.

Pangilinan is Sharon’s husband, while Padilla is her former boyfriend and longtime screen partner. Their romantic history has been well documented over the years, making the Senate confrontation particularly intriguing to entertainment fans.

Robin Padilla had threatened an ethics complaint

Following the exchange, Padilla said he intended to pursue an ethics complaint if Pangilinan did not apologize on the Senate floor.

Pangilinan, for his part, rejected the characterization of his actions and said heated exchanges and raised voices can occur during Senate debates. He also challenged Padilla to proceed with the complaint if he wanted to.

The Senate Sergeant-at-Arms later said that another commotion involving the two lawmakers occurred after a session suspension, but that the situation was quickly settled.

Despite the political dispute, Cuneta has made it clear that she does not intend to become part of it.

Sharon and Robin’s complicated history

Cuneta and Padilla’s history goes far beyond their status as former lovers.

The pair first became romantically linked after working together on the 1991 hit film Maging Sino Ka Man. Cuneta later revealed that they had been serious enough about their relationship to consider marriage, but circumstances eventually ended their plans.

Despite their breakup, the two eventually rebuilt their friendship and continued working together.

They reunited professionally in Di Na Natuto in 1993 and later appeared together in the 2017 film Unexpectedly Yours.

In previous interviews, Cuneta has also spoken warmly about Padilla while emphasizing that their relationship had long since moved beyond romance.

That history is one reason the Senate confrontation immediately became a magnet for memes and online commentary.

But Cuneta’s latest comments suggest she sees the situation much more simply: Padilla is her ex, Pangilinan is her husband, and whatever happened inside the Senate belongs to the two senators.

Sharon chooses not to take sides

Rather than offer an opinion about who was right or wrong, Cuneta has opted to stay out of the political dispute.

Her “non-issue” remark also underscores the distinction between her personal relationships and the senators’ responsibilities as public officials.

For Sharon, there appears to be no reason to turn a heated political exchange into a personal family drama.

Meanwhile, the Megastar is preparing for another major entertainment project. She is set to star alongside Barbie Forteza and Khalil Ramos in Honor Thy Mother, which is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video on September 11.

For now, Cuneta appears content to leave the Senate clash where it belongs—inside the political arena—and keep her personal relationships separate from the controversy.
