28-Year-Old Motorcyclist Dies After Crash With Lorry on PIE

A 28-year-old motorcyclist has died after a collision involving a lorry on the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) in Singapore, with the fatal crash prompting a major traffic disruption along the busy expressway.

The accident happened on Oct. 1 along the PIE towards Changi Airport. Police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force were alerted to the collision at about 9.50am.

The motorcyclist was found unconscious after the crash and was taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital for medical treatment. He later died in hospital from injuries sustained in the accident.

The collision occurred near the Chantek flyover and resulted in heavy traffic congestion in the area. Motorists travelling along the expressway reported seeing emergency vehicles at the scene as authorities responded to the incident.

Footage and photographs taken after the crash showed several police vehicles and other response vehicles at the location. A motorcycle could also be seen lying on its side on the expressway, with traffic cones placed around the area as investigations were carried out.

One commuter who passed the scene said an ambulance had travelled along the expressway shortly before reaching the accident site. Other motorists later observed police vehicles and a Crime Scene Investigation vehicle at the location.

Authorities have not released details on how the collision occurred or what led to the motorcycle and lorry coming into contact. The circumstances surrounding the fatal crash remain under investigation.

The lorry driver, a 48-year-old man, was not reported to have been injured. He is assisting police with their investigations, which are ongoing.

The fatal incident comes amid continued concerns over road safety involving motorcyclists in Singapore. Traffic Police figures released in August showed that motorcycle-related accidents increased in the first half of 2026 compared with the same period a year earlier.

From January to June 2026, accidents involving motorcyclists rose to 2,186 from 2,096 during the first half of 2025. Injuries involving motorcyclists and pillion riders also increased from 2,335 to 2,470.

Despite the increase in motorcycle-related accidents, overall traffic fatalities declined during the same period. There were 61 road deaths in the first half of 2026, compared with 79 in the corresponding period of 2025. Motorcyclists and pillion riders accounted for 28 of those deaths, down from 43 a year earlier.

However, motorcyclists and pillion riders remained the largest group involved in fatal road accidents during the first half of 2026, accounting for 45.9 per cent of all road deaths.

Police investigations into the PIE collision are continuing. Further details on the circumstances of the accident may be released as the investigation progresses.
