MANILA, Philippines — Breakup rumors surrounding basketball player Chad Gammad and PBA courtside reporter Apple David recently spread across social media, but the couple appears to have answered the speculation in their own way: with humor.
The rumors gained traction after social media users noticed that the two had not been posting as frequently about each other. A circulating post even claimed that Apple had confirmed their supposed separation.
But Chad quickly pushed back.
The Letran Knights player shared a screenshot of the circulating claim on Facebook and dismissed it as fake.
“Pake news po kung nagtataka kayo,” Chad wrote.
His post was also reported by GMA Entertainment, which confirmed that the basketball player was addressing a viral post claiming that he and Apple had broken up.
Apple likewise appeared unfazed by the speculation.
According to GMA Entertainment, the courtside reporter reposted two contradictory claims—one saying the couple had separated and another suggesting they were getting married. Rather than issue a lengthy statement, Apple responded with humor.
“Mainit-init pa.”
She then joked:
“Sana bukas preggy na.”
So, are Chad and Apple actually separated?
Based on their latest public responses, there is no indication that the couple has announced a breakup.
In fact, Apple reportedly shared a screenshot of a video call with Chad while she was in Taiwan and he was in the Philippines.
Her playful caption made the situation clear:
“May point, hiwalay nga naman. LDR muna tayo, ha.”
The “LDR” refers to a long-distance relationship, apparently explaining why the two were temporarily apart rather than ending their romance. Interaksyon reported that Apple was in Taiwan while Chad remained in the Philippines.
The temporary distance appears to have provided the perfect opening for social-media speculation—but the couple’s own posts tell a different story.
The rumors came amid increased public attention
Chad and Apple have been one of the more talked-about couples on Philippine social media since publicly confirming their relationship earlier this year.
Their romance has attracted attention not only because of their public profiles but also because of their 15-year age difference. Chad is 18, while Apple is 33.
The relationship has consequently faced both support and criticism online.
In previous months, Apple addressed accusations surrounding their age gap, while Chad has repeatedly defended her against online comments.
In August, Chad came to Apple’s defense after some social-media users posted jokes about their age difference following his public tribute to her for Girlfriend’s Day. He urged critics to think before posting hurtful remarks.

The breakup rumors also come after Chad previously spoke about Apple’s role in his life.
According to GMA Entertainment, the young basketball player said Apple is supportive and caring and understands how important basketball is to him.
He also said he has been trying to spend less time reading negative social-media comments and instead focus on blocking out the noise.
That approach appears to be reflected in the couple’s latest response to the breakup speculation: rather than engage in a lengthy public confrontation, both chose to laugh it off.
Their relationship has remained highly visible online
Apple and Chad first became publicly linked earlier this year, with Apple later sharing videos and photos of their relationship on social media.
Philstar previously reported that Apple posted clips showing the two spending time together, including playing basketball, eating out and working out.
Their relationship has continued to attract attention, making even ordinary changes in their social-media activity enough to trigger speculation.
This latest episode, however, appears to have been another case of online rumors moving faster than the facts.
For now, Chad’s “fake news” response and Apple’s jokes about their temporary long-distance setup point to the same conclusion: the breakup being circulated online was not confirmed by the couple.
Instead, the two appear to be dealing with a temporary period apart while Apple is in Taiwan and Chad remains in the Philippines.
And judging from the way they responded, they seem more amused than shaken by the latest round of relationship rumors.
