Macklemore is returning to the stage with a new series of concerts focused on Palestinian humanitarian causes, just days after his removal from Ed Sheeran’s North American tour following his public pro-Palestinian comments.
The Grammy-winning rapper announced the “Free Palestine” tour on Sept. 24, saying the performances will bring together artists and friends and that proceeds will benefit organizations providing humanitarian assistance and support to Palestinians.
The first European dates are scheduled for Oct. 26 at Dublin’s 3Arena, Oct. 29 at Paris’ Accor Arena and Oct. 30 at London’s OVO Arena Wembley. Additional performers and U.S. dates are expected to be announced later.
The organizations listed as beneficiaries include Anera, Glia, Gaza Soup Kitchen, Taawon, HEAL Palestine, Palestinian Youth Movement, Middle East Children’s Alliance, Jewish Voice for Peace, Medical Aid for Palestinians, Institute for Middle East Understanding, Palestine Children’s Relief Fund and UNRWA USA. Their work spans humanitarian relief, medical assistance, education, community support and advocacy.
The announcement follows a major controversy surrounding Macklemore’s role on Ed Sheeran’s “Loop Tour.” Macklemore was removed from the tour after making pro-Palestinian remarks during performances in New Jersey. Sheeran subsequently said the decision was made by tour promoters rather than by him.
Macklemore has continued to use his platform to raise funds for Palestinian humanitarian organizations. Earlier this month, he pledged $1 million from his net earnings from the tour to six organizations, including Medical Aid for Palestinians, Palestine Children’s Relief Fund and UNRWA USA.
The latest concerts represent a larger expansion of that effort, with the new tour turning Macklemore’s recent dispute over political expression into a series of standalone performances centered on humanitarian fundraising.
The announcement also comes as the debate over artists speaking publicly about the Israel-Palestinian conflict continues to affect the entertainment industry, with performers, promoters and audiences facing increasingly visible disagreements over political expression and concert participation.
With European dates already confirmed and U.S. shows still to come, Macklemore’s next concerts could become a significant new platform for Palestinian humanitarian fundraising — and keep the debate over politics, free expression and the role of artists on the international stage in the spotlight.
