The long-awaited test of endurance, preparation and legal knowledge has begun.
A record 13,441 aspiring lawyers have been cleared to take the 2026 Philippine Bar Examinations, which officially begin today, September 6, and will be administered across 15 local testing centers nationwide. The examinations will continue on September 9 and conclude on September 13.
The figure comes from 14,291 registered applicants, meaning 13,441 were ultimately cleared by the Supreme Court’s Office of the Bar Confidant. The 2026 number also exceeds the 13,193 applicants registered in 2025, making this one of the largest applicant pools in the history of the Philippine Bar.
From Manila to Mindanao: 15 sites will host the exams
Unlike the traditional centralized Bar examinations, the 2026 tests will again use the Supreme Court’s digitalized and regionalized format.

- Mindanao State University–Iligan Institute of Technology
San Beda College Alabang has also been designated as the National Headquarters of the 2026 Bar examinations.

The Supreme Court has said the examination questions will be based solely on laws, rules, issuances and jurisprudence as of June 30, 2025.
Supreme Court tells examinees: Keep fighting
Associate Justice Samuel H. Gaerlan, chairperson of the 2026 Bar Examinations, has urged candidates to trust their preparation and remain determined despite the pressure surrounding the exams.
In his message to Bar hopefuls, Gaerlan emphasized that the Bar is not simply a competition against other examinees but a personal test of preparation, perseverance and readiness for the responsibilities of the legal profession.
His message comes as thousands of candidates enter testing centers after months—and for many, years—of preparation.
Security and traffic measures tightened
The examinations are also affecting traffic and security operations around testing centers.
The Philippine National Police has ordered security preparations nationwide, while local governments have implemented road closures, traffic restrictions and other measures around examination venues.
In Cebu alone, roughly 1,200 to 1,300 examinees are expected to take the Bar at the University of San Jose-Recoletos Basak Campus. The Cebu City Police Office has deployed 102 personnel around the testing area to help manage security and traffic.
Several universities are likewise adjusting classes and campus access to accommodate the examinations. Central Philippine University in Iloilo, for example, has implemented temporary changes in campus operations while serving as one of the 15 testing centers.
Why this year’s Bar is significant
The 2026 examinations continue the Supreme Court’s shift toward a digital and regionalized Bar, a system first implemented for the pandemic-delayed 2020–2021 examinations and subsequently retained as the standard approach.
In 2025, 5,594 examinees passed the Bar after 11,420 valid examinees completed the tests, producing a 48.98% passing rate.
For the thousands entering testing centers this year, however, statistics are secondary.
For many, these three days represent the culmination of years of law school, sleepless nights, sacrifices and the hope of finally adding the title “Attorney” to their names.
The 2026 Bar examinations are now underway—and the next chapter of thousands of aspiring lawyers’ careers depends on what happens inside those testing rooms.
