South Korean actress Son Ye-jin is giving fans a glimpse into her family life and her return to historical drama while promoting her new Netflix series, The Scandal.
During an appearance on Netflix Korea’s variety show I Came to Promote, But…, the 44-year-old actress revealed that she is currently taking a break from filming to focus on raising her young son, Woo-jin, with husband and fellow actor Hyun Bin.
Ye-jin shared a funny moment involving her son, saying that when she tells him she needs to lie down because she is tired, he sometimes responds, “Mum, get a grip.” The unexpected remark left her amused and wondering where he learned the expression.
She also opened up about a recent family trip to Okinawa and the United States, saying that traveling with a child was tiring but meaningful because the experience allowed the family to spend time together.
The actress also explained her habit of covering Hyun Bin’s face with stickers whenever she posts photos of him on social media. According to Ye-jin, the decision came from her husband himself after he asked her to keep his face covered.
Meanwhile, The Scandal marks Son Ye-jin’s return to the historical-drama genre after more than two decades. The eight-part Netflix series is set during the Joseon Dynasty and stars Ye-jin as Lady Cho alongside Ji Chang-wook and Nana.
The story follows Lady Cho, a noblewoman who proposes a dangerous seduction wager involving Cho Won, played by Ji Chang-wook, and Hui-yeon, a virtuous widow portrayed by Nana.
Ye-jin admitted that returning to historical drama presented a challenge, particularly because the dialogue felt unfamiliar after years of working in contemporary productions. She said Hyun Bin helped her rehearse her lines at home, despite being busy with his own work.
The Scandal premiered globally on Netflix on September 18, 2026, bringing Son Ye-jin back to the screen in a role built around desire, ambition and forbidden relationships.
