SEOUL, South Korea — Singer and actress IU marked her 18th debut anniversary by turning a career milestone into another major act of giving, donating a total of ₩200 million (about US$144,000) to four organizations supporting young people, rehabilitation patients and national veterans.
The donation was announced by IU’s agency, EDAM Entertainment, on September 18, the anniversary of her debut in 2008. The contributions were made under the name “IU-AENA,” combining IU’s name with her official fan community, UAENA.
₩50 Million Each Goes to Four Organizations
IU divided the ₩200 million equally among four organizations, giving ₩50 million each to the Korea Social Welfare Society, Seoul Rehabilitation Hospital, Heart-Heart Foundation and Habitat for Humanity Korea.
The funds will support several causes, including:
- Helping young adults who are preparing to live independently after institutional care
- Rehabilitation treatment for children and teenagers from financially disadvantaged families
- Living expenses, education and mental-health support for young women preparing for independence
- Improving housing conditions for national veterans and people recognized for national service
The donation therefore covers several different areas of social support rather than focusing on a single beneficiary group.
Her 2026 Donations Have Now Reached ₩600 Million
The latest contribution adds to a series of major donations IU has made throughout 2026.
She donated ₩100 million on Children’s Day in May to support children and adolescents. On her birthday on May 16, she donated another ₩300 million to people and communities in need.
With the ₩200 million announced on September 18, IU’s publicly reported charitable giving for 2026 has reached ₩600 million.
IU has repeatedly used significant personal occasions—including her birthday, debut anniversary and year-end holidays—as opportunities to make donations under the combined “IU-AENA” name.
SBS Entertainment has also reported that IU’s cumulative donations were already estimated at more than ₩8 billion as of December 2025, although the exact cumulative total depends on which publicly reported donations are included.
18 Years Since Her Debut
IU made her debut on September 18, 2008, and has since established a career spanning music and acting.
Her latest musical activity came just days before her anniversary. On September 10, she released a new digital single, “From This Star,” adding another release to a career that has included numerous chart-topping songs and major acting projects.
The anniversary donation comes as IU continues to combine her entertainment career with regular philanthropic activity.

The use of the “IU-AENA” name also gives the donations a connection to IU’s fans.
