Three men have been arrested in Johor after a video showing them urinating beside the Eastern Dispersal Link (EDL) highway in Johor Bahru went viral on social media.
The suspects, aged between 28 and 36, were arrested at a restaurant in Taman Maju Jaya at about 9.30pm on Sept 20, several hours after police received a report concerning the incident.
According to Johor Bahru Selatan police, the video had been circulating online and showed the three men standing beside their multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) on the side of the highway. The vehicle was reportedly stopped with its hazard lights on.
Police said the incident itself occurred at around 2am that morning. The report was lodged at about 6.11pm after the footage was detected on social media.
The MPV believed to be linked to the incident was seized as part of the investigation. Police also said all three men tested negative for drugs, while one of the suspects has a previous criminal record.
The case is being investigated under Section 377D of Malaysia’s Penal Code for an offence involving gross indecency. If convicted, the offence carries a possible jail term of up to two years. The investigation papers are expected to be completed before being referred to the state deputy public prosecutor.
The incident has drawn attention because the EDL is a major road in Johor Bahru, where stopping along the highway can also create risks for motorists and passengers.
For now, police investigations remain ongoing, with the viral footage forming part of the circumstances surrounding the case.
