A man chasing a small dog through the middle of a busy Singapore road has sparked concern online after a video showed vehicles slowing down and changing lanes to avoid the pair.
The 38-second footage, uploaded to Facebook page Beh Chia Lor – Singapore Road on Sept 20, appears to show the incident taking place along Still Road towards Marine Parade. A man wearing a black tank top, bermuda shorts and slippers can be seen running along the road as the dog races several metres ahead of him.
Several vehicles approaching from behind were forced to slow down and manoeuvre around the man and the dog. At one point, an e-bike rider also moved toward the middle of the road, apparently attempting to guide the dog toward the roadside, but the effort did not succeed.
The situation became even more dangerous as the dog continued weaving between lanes. Near the end of the video, it ran into a line of vehicles waiting at a traffic light to turn right. The footage does not show whether the man eventually managed to catch the dog or what happened to it afterward.
The dramatic chase quickly divided online commenters. Some questioned why the man was putting himself in the path of moving vehicles, while others said they could understand someone taking risks to prevent their pet from being hit.
There were also questions about why the dog was running loose in the first place, with some commenters suggesting it may have escaped from a vehicle or its owner.
Singapore’s Animal and Veterinary Service advises people not to chase free-roaming dogs, noting that sudden movements can cause a dog to feel threatened. It recommends remaining calm, giving the animal space and seeking assistance when necessary.
The incident is a reminder of how quickly a loose animal can create a dangerous situation on a busy road. In this case, drivers had to react to both the frightened dog and a man running directly into traffic — turning a desperate attempt to catch a pet into a potentially serious road-safety incident.
