The Cebu Provincial Government has formed a Technical Working Group (TWG) to strengthen the planning, implementation and monitoring of solid waste management programs across the province.
The group was created under Resolution No. 2026-02 and will provide technical, planning, engineering, environmental, legal, financial, monitoring and administrative support to the Cebu Provincial Solid Waste Management Bureau (CPSWMB).
The TWG is also expected to improve coordination among government offices and other stakeholders on solid waste management policies, recommendations and monitoring reports.
The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer (PENRO) will serve as chairperson, while the Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO) will act as vice chairperson.
Representatives from local and national government agencies, as well as the private sector, will also be included in the group.
The resolution states that funding needed for the group’s operations may come from the Cebu Provincial Government, subject to the availability of funds and compliance with auditing laws, rules and regulations.
The initiative follows Governor Pamela Baricuatro’s plans to improve solid waste management in the province. Provincial officials have identified poor waste management as a concern because improperly disposed garbage can contribute to the obstruction of waterways.
The new working group is expected to help strengthen coordination and monitoring as Cebu works to improve its solid waste management programs across the province.
