MANILA, Philippines — Heart Evangelista is accustomed to fashion-week front rows, television cameras and carefully produced campaigns. But for one day, she stepped onto the other side of the production line—and longtime friend and former love-team partner John Prats was the one showing her around.
Prats shared photos of Evangelista backstage at a concert rehearsal wearing a black “production staff” shirt and identification pass, watching the activity and monitoring what was happening behind the scenes.
Rather than appearing as the performer everyone was watching, Evangelista spent the experience observing the people whose work normally remains outside the frame.
Prats described the moment as Heart exploring his professional world for a day—from being the person in front of cameras to seeing how a production is managed from the director’s side.
Evangelista’s response was short: she called the experience a favorite.
The photos are lighthearted on their own.
But they become more interesting when placed against what has happened between Heart and John throughout 2026.
After more than two decades apart professionally, the former teen love-team partners are not merely appearing together for nostalgic photos.
They have already reunited onscreen, worked together on a music video and publicly confirmed that another project is being developed—and that both of them are personally involved in it.
From leading man to the person running the show
Seeing Heart wearing a production credential also highlights how dramatically John Prats’ career has changed.
For viewers who remember him primarily from youth-oriented television and romantic roles, Prats was once the person expected to stand in front of the camera.
Today, directing has become a major part of his professional identity.
PEP reported that Prats directed 25 concerts and fan meetings in 2023 alone. He traced his interest in concert direction to watching Coldplay perform in Manila in 2017 and later made the transition into production, beginning with music-video work before directing Moira dela Torre’s first major concert in 2018.
His approach, he told PEP, has been shaped by having spent years as a performer himself.
Instead of treating the artist as simply one component of a production, Prats said he tries to design shows around the artist’s own story and vision.
That second career has continued expanding.
In 2026, he directed concert projects including Yeng Constantino’s “Biyaheng Bente,” the singer-songwriter’s 20th-anniversary celebration at Araneta Coliseum. GMA reported that its first two nights, held August 28 and 29, sold out, leading to plans for an additional Manila performance.
PEP also documented Heart attending Constantino’s concert, where she and Prats became part of one of the evening’s nostalgic “JoHeart” moments.
Heart and John’s reunion did not start with the production shirt
The latest behind-the-scenes moment is actually another chapter in a reunion that has unfolded throughout the year.
Heart and John were among the recognizable young stars of the early 2000s, becoming a popular pairing through projects including “G-Mik,” “Trip,” “My First Romance,” “Berks” and “Ang Tanging Ina.”
Their professional partnership eventually ended, and Heart has said they went more than two decades without properly spending time together.
When they finally reconnected, she described the experience as personally “healing,” explaining that their original love-team period had ended abruptly when they were both still young and under significant pressure.
She told GMA in August that while they could not preserve their old love-team partnership forever, their friendship had become something she hoped would last.
The reunion, in other words, has been framed by both of them less as an attempt to recreate their teenage years and more as two adults revisiting an unfinished chapter from their careers.
They already tested the reunion onscreen
Before Heart stepped into John’s production world, the pair had already appeared together again in TJ Monterde’s “Teka Lang” music video.
The story used Heart and John as the older versions of former childhood sweethearts who unexpectedly meet again years later—a premise that deliberately echoed the pair’s own long history together.

And there is still an unnamed JoHeart project coming
The most intriguing part of their 2026 reunion is what has not yet been revealed.
Heart confirmed in August that she and John were “definitely working on something” together and described the project as highly personal and hands-on for both of them.
Cornerstone Studios later teased the project with the line “Some stories don’t end. They just wait” and the hashtag #JoHeart.
Heart separately said the pair had sat down with their old photographs and discussed creating something for fans who had continued supporting them for more than 20 years.
She characterized it as major “fan service,” while stopping short of announcing whether it would be a film, series, digital production or something else.
That distinction remains important as of September 16.
There is a confirmed project. Its exact format has not been publicly announced.
So the production-staff experience should not automatically be treated as proof that Heart is directing that project or that the concert rehearsal itself was part of it.
Those details have not been confirmed.
Heart herself has been looking beyond the polished image
The backstage experiment also fits a wider shift in how Evangelista has presented her career this year.
Her reality program “Heart World” repeatedly showed the work happening around fashion trips, television production and her professional team rather than limiting the story to finished photos and red-carpet appearances.
When she renewed her relationship with Sparkle GMA Artist Center in August, she emphasized that the polished material audiences see on television and social media hides long hours of work by large production and management teams.
Daily Tribune and other coverage of the signing noted that Heart was entering her 28th year in show business while continuing to develop new projects.
That makes her brief turn as production staff more than a costume change for a social-media post.
It put her physically inside an environment she has relied on throughout almost three decades as a performer—but normally from the other side of the monitor.

The easiest story to tell about Heart and John is nostalgia.
Fans remember the young actors.
They remember “G-Mik.”
