SINGAPORE — A 20-year-old Singapore Civil Defence Force full-time national serviceman has died after he was found unconscious while on duty at Marina Bay Fire Station.

The young firefighter, Lance Corporal Muhammad Nur Ilham Mohammed Iswadi, was found unconscious at the fire station’s training yard at about 8.10am on Sunday, Sept. 6.

Personnel at the station immediately administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation before he was taken to Singapore General Hospital. He later died.

The tragedy has prompted an outpouring of concern as the Singapore Civil Defence Force said it was deeply saddened by the death of the young national serviceman.

Police said preliminary investigations do not indicate foul play, although investigations are continuing.

Found Unconscious While on Duty

According to the SCDF, LCP Ilham was on duty when he was found unconscious at the training yard of Marina Bay Fire Station.

The police said they received a call for assistance at about 8.15am at 70 Marina View, the address of the fire station.

Emergency personnel immediately began CPR and the 20-year-old serviceman was conveyed to Singapore General Hospital while still unconscious.

He was later pronounced dead.

Authorities have not publicly disclosed the cause of his death.

The police said that, based on preliminary investigations, no foul play is suspected. Investigations remain ongoing.

He Had Completed Firefighter Training Just Weeks Earlier

LCP Ilham had only recently completed his firefighter training.

He enlisted with the SCDF on Feb. 10, 2026, and completed his firefighter course at the Civil Defence Academy on Aug. 7.

He was subsequently posted to Marina Bay Fire Station on Aug. 18.

That means the young NSF had been serving at the station for less than three weeks before the incident.

The circumstances surrounding how he became unconscious have not been publicly disclosed.

SCDF Extends Condolences to His Family

The SCDF said it was saddened by the death of its serviceman and extended its deepest condolences to his family.

The force added that it is providing the family with the necessary assistance and support during this difficult period.

The death is particularly tragic given LCP Ilham’s young age and the fact that he had only recently completed his training before beginning his posting as a firefighter.

Investigations Continue

For now, authorities have released only limited information about the incident.

Police have confirmed that foul play is not suspected based on preliminary investigations.

However, investigations are still ongoing, and no official cause of death has been announced.

Authorities have also not publicly provided further details about the events leading up to LCP Ilham being found unconscious at the training yard.
