The 2026 Bar Examinations in Cebu ended without major security incidents, with hundreds of police and emergency personnel deployed around the University of San Jose-Recoletos Basak Campus throughout the three-day examination period.
The Cebu City Police Office said the exams concluded peacefully on September 13, despite a large crowd of family members, friends and supporters gathering outside the campus to welcome examinees after the final tests.
USJ-R served as Cebu’s only testing centre for this year’s Bar examinations.
1,326 examinees took the opening-day tests
A total of 1,519 examinees were registered at the Cebu testing centre, with 1,326 taking the examinations on the opening day.
The Cebu venue recorded the highest number of examinees among the 15 testing centres nationwide.
Across the country, 13,441 applicants were admitted to take the Bar examinations, with 12,029 sitting for the first day’s tests and 12,017 continuing on the second day.
The 2026 examinations were held on September 6, 9 and 13.
130 personnel deployed for security
The Cebu City Police Office deployed about 130 personnel to maintain security around the USJ-R campus.
They were supported by personnel from the Cebu City Transportation Office, Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and Bureau of Fire Protection.
CCPO Director Col. Ricky Sumalde personally supervised security operations inside and outside the campus.
Police said preparations made well before the examinations helped prevent major problems during the three-day event.
No unruly behaviour was reported, while residents and members of the public complied with restrictions imposed around the testing centre.
Noise and liquor bans enforced
Authorities imposed noise and liquor bans within a 100-metre radius of the USJ-R campus during examination days.
The restrictions took effect shortly after midnight and remained in force until the examinations ended each day.
Police said no violations were recorded.
The measures were intended to minimise distractions and maintain a secure and orderly environment for examinees.
About 800 supporters gather on final day
Around 800 relatives, friends and other supporters gathered outside the campus after the final examinations on September 13.
The large crowd caused some traffic congestion along the area near the school, but police and traffic personnel directed motorists and kept vehicles moving.
Volunteers from the USJ-R School of Law Central Bar Operations 2026 also gathered along N. Bacalso Avenue early in the morning to cheer for examinees completing their final tests.
The support reflected the significance of the Bar examinations for Cebu’s law graduates and their families.
Final-day exams covered criminal and remedial law
The final day of the 2026 Bar examinations covered Criminal Law in the morning.
The afternoon session focused on Remedial Law, Legal and Judicial Ethics and Practical Exercises.
This year’s Bar examinations continued to use a digitalised and regionalised format, with examinees taking the tests at designated centres around the country.
Supreme Court Associate Justice Samuel H. Gaerlan chaired the 2026 Bar examinations.
Results expected in January 2027
With the final examinations completed, thousands of aspiring lawyers across the country now await the results.
The Supreme Court has tentatively scheduled the release of the 2026 Bar examination results for early January 2027.
For Cebu’s examinees, the end of the three-day examination brought relief after months of preparation.
The peaceful conclusion at USJ-R also marked the end of a major security and logistical operation involving police, emergency responders, traffic personnel, university staff and volunteers.
For now, the focus shifts from examination rooms to the long-awaited results, as Cebu’s aspiring lawyers wait to learn whether they will soon join the Philippine legal profession.
