MANILA, Philippines — Thousands of Filipinos looking to join the Philippine National Police could get another opportunity in 2027, with the government setting aside nearly P700 million for the hiring of 2,000 additional patrolmen and patrolwomen nationwide.
The proposed allocation is included in the government’s 2027 national budget, which also provides substantially higher funding for the PNP’s personnel costs, welfare programs and operational capabilities.
The Department of Budget and Management said P697.18 million has been earmarked for the additional 2,000 police personnel, while another P2.186 billion is proposed to fill existing vacant uniformed positions.
The planned recruitment comes as the administration seeks to strengthen police manpower and improve the PNP’s ability to maintain peace and order nationwide.
PNP budget climbs to P242.53 billion
Under the proposed 2027 National Expenditure Program, the PNP is set to receive P242.53 billion, up from P226.55 billion in 2026.
Of the proposed allocation, P210.55 billion is intended for personnel services.
This includes P100.55 billion for adjusted base pay and P28.67 billion for the P350 daily subsistence allowance of 224,421 PNP personnel.
The government is also allocating funds for police welfare, including:
- P1.74 billion for rice subsidy
- P280.67 million for hospitalization and healthcare of PNP personnel and their dependents
- P125.11 million for the Bantay Kaisipan Health Program
- P2 billion for the PNP Capability Enhancement Program
- P3.12 billion for information and communications technology
- P1.499 billion for infrastructure projects
The proposed package reflects a broader effort to increase police manpower while improving the welfare and resources available to officers.
Recruitment could draw thousands of applicants
The 2,000 new positions could attract significant interest from aspiring police officers.
The PNP’s previous recruitment cycle demonstrated the scale of demand for police jobs. In 2025, 52,373 applicants competed for 8,589 patrolman and patrolwoman slots, according to reporting by Journal News Online. The available positions included 6,589 attrition vacancies and 2,000 newly created regular positions.
The number of applicants was reportedly higher than the previous year’s 50,107 applicants.
This means competition for the 2027 positions could again be intense, particularly because applicants must pass the required screening and eligibility processes.
Thousands recently qualified for PNP entrance eligibility
The National Police Commission also reported that 9,224 examinees passed the Philippine National Police Entrance Examination (PNPEE) administered in April 2026.
A total of 41,592 individuals took the PNPEE, Promotional Examination and Police Executive Service Eligibility-Written Examination, with 12,372 passing at an overall rate of 29.75 percent.
The PNPEE passers became eligible to apply for appointment as patrolmen or patrolwomen, subject to the applicable requirements.
That figure provides an indication of the size of the pool of aspiring police officers already moving through the eligibility process.
Merit and fitness remain key requirements
The planned expansion does not mean applicants will automatically be accepted.
Existing PNP recruitment policies emphasize merit, fitness and equal opportunity, with applicants required to undergo the prescribed selection and appointment procedures.
NAPOLCOM also continues to administer the PNP Entrance Examination, with the agency emphasizing that examinations are intended to help ensure that recruitment and promotion remain merit-based.
For those planning to apply, prospective recruits should therefore rely only on official PNP and NAPOLCOM announcements for the final vacancy numbers, application schedule, documentary requirements and recruitment procedures.
More than just adding police officers
The proposed recruitment is part of a much larger effort to strengthen the PNP.
The government’s 2027 funding plan combines additional personnel with investments in police equipment, information technology, infrastructure and personnel welfare.
The DBM said the PNP’s capability enhancement allocation will support areas including mobility, communications, firepower and anti-terrorism equipment.
The government is also proposing a 5-percent increase in base pay for military and uniformed personnel in 2027, alongside the continued P350 daily subsistence allowance.
What aspiring applicants should watch
For Filipinos targeting the 2027 PNP recruitment, the key issue now is the eventual release of the official recruitment announcement and detailed quota allocation.
The proposed national budget provides the funding for 2,000 additional patrolmen and patrolwomen, but applicants should wait for official PNP/NAPOLCOM announcements before treating the recruitment as formally open.
With thousands of applicants competing for limited positions in previous recruitment cycles, those hoping to enter the police service will likely face stiff competition.
