SINGAPORE — A 32-year-old man wanted for drug-related offences was arrested after allegedly struggling with police officers during a routine patrol near Tiong Bahru Plaza, with officers also finding a vaporiser in his possession.
The dramatic arrest, which was captured on video and circulated online, took place at about 8.30pm on Sept. 7 near 302 Tiong Bahru Road. Police officers conducting a routine check discovered that the man was wanted in connection with drug-related offences, according to the Singapore Police Force.
Video Shows Man Being Subdued
Videos shared online showed two police officers attempting to restrain the man near the shopping mall as he allegedly struggled and tried to break free.
Members of the public gathered nearby as the officers worked to bring the situation under control.
Police said the man resisted arrest, forcing officers to use necessary force to restrain him before taking him into custody.
Wanted for Drug-Related Offences
The encounter reportedly began as a routine check during a police patrol.
However, officers subsequently discovered that the 32-year-old man was wanted for drug-related offences, prompting them to arrest him.
The drug-related offences have since been referred to the Central Narcotics Bureau, while investigations remain ongoing.
Vaporiser Found During Arrest
Police also found a vaporiser in the man’s possession.
The vaporiser-related offence has been referred to the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) for further investigation.
Singapore maintains a strict stance against vaping, with enhanced penalties and enforcement measures in effect. Authorities have continued to intensify action against vaporiser offences, including cases involving etomidate-laced pods, commonly referred to as Kpods.
Singapore Steps Up Crackdown on Vaping
The Tiong Bahru Plaza incident comes amid an intensified nationwide crackdown on vaping.
More than 2,400 people were caught and penalised for possessing or using vaporisers in Singapore during the second quarter of 2026, according to figures released by the authorities. Of those cases, hundreds involved etomidate vaporisers.
Authorities have also been targeting larger trafficking operations. Earlier this month, five men were charged over alleged trafficking of etomidate vaporiser pods, including one case involving more than 12,000 pods with an estimated street value of S$870,000.
Investigations Still Ongoing
The man arrested at Tiong Bahru Plaza is now being investigated in connection with the separate drug-related and vaporiser offences.
Authorities have not released further details about the specific drug-related offences for which he was wanted.
What began as a routine police check quickly escalated into a public struggle — and now, with both the Central Narcotics Bureau and Health Sciences Authority involved, the 32-year-old man’s arrest could lead to more developments as investigations continue.
