TITAY, Zamboanga Sibugay — At least 645 families in Titay have received 10 kilograms of rice each under the national government’s rice assistance program, providing immediate food support as households continue to deal with rising everyday expenses.
The beneficiaries came from Barangays Dalisay and Kipit, where the rice was distributed through the Local Government Support Fund–Financial Assistance to Local Government Units (LGSF-FALGU) rice distribution program.
The distribution was reported by the Philippine Information Agency on August 13, 2026. Municipal officials, barangay leaders and partner government agencies helped facilitate the activity, while officials from the Department of the Interior and Local Government Region 9 monitored the distribution.
The 645 families are only part of a much bigger rollout
The Titay distribution is part of a wider ₱100-million rice assistance program for Zamboanga Sibugay.
According to a separate PIA report, approximately 49,200 households across the province are expected to receive rice assistance under the administration’s Bawat Bayan Makikinabang (BBM) Rice Distribution Program.
Qualified households are set to receive 10 kilograms of rice every other month through the end of 2026, making the Titay distribution part of a continuing province-wide food assistance effort rather than a one-time local activity.
The province-wide rollout began with an activity at the Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Capitol, where Special Assistant to the President Anton Lagdameo Jr. participated in the launch of the assistance program.
What the rice assistance means for families
For households struggling to stretch limited budgets, rice assistance can help reduce spending on one of the country’s most basic food staples.
The PIA reported that recipients in Titay welcomed the assistance, saying the rice would help sustain their families’ daily food needs and ease pressure on household expenses.
The national government has positioned the Bawat Bayan Makikinabang initiative as a way of bringing government resources closer to communities through local government units.
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. launched the initiative in February 2026, with the program designed to channel support for food, health, education and other community needs through LGUs. The 2026 national budget provided nearly ₱58 billion for the Local Government Support Fund, according to the Presidential Communications Office.
The government has also said the rice component is intended to provide sustained assistance rather than a single distribution. In a May 2026 announcement concerning the program in Cagayan, Marcos said qualified families would receive 10 kilograms of rice six times a year.
Zamboanga Sibugay rollout gains wider attention
The Titay distribution came shortly after a national-government visit to Zamboanga Sibugay that included both food and healthcare assistance.
Philstar.com reported that Lagdameo led the rollout of the Bawat Bayan Makikinabang Rice Distribution Program in the province on August 10. The same visit included the announcement of ₱10 million in medical assistance funding for the Dr. George T. Hofer Medical Center’s zero-billing program.
Daily Tribune likewise reported the arrival of the Office of the Special Assistant to the President in the province for the rollout of rice and medical assistance.
For Titay’s 645 beneficiary families, however, the immediate impact is straightforward: 10 kilograms of rice added to the household food supply.
And with the province-wide program targeting around 49,200 households, the distribution in Dalisay and Kipit could be viewed as just one piece of a much larger food-assistance rollout now unfolding across Zamboanga Sibugay.
