MISAMIS OCCIDENTAL — Government assistance is reaching more vulnerable households in Misamis Occidental as 1,359 residents from Jimenez and Panaon became the first beneficiaries of the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Unified Package for Livelihoods, Industry, Food, and Transport (UPLIFT) program.
The assistance was distributed during a rollout at the Jimenez Gym on August 10, 2026, with provincial and local officials led by Misamis Occidental Gov. Henry S. Oaminal, Jimenez Mayor Joselito Chong, and Panaon Mayor Francisco Pailago Jr.
₱2,000 cash and rice every month
Under the assistance package, qualified beneficiaries will receive ₱2,000 and five kilograms of rice every month through December, providing short-term support as low-income households deal with continuing economic pressures.
The initial batch covers vulnerable sectors in Jimenez and Panaon, while the provincial government said the UPLIFT rollout will continue in other municipalities and cities throughout Misamis Occidental.
The program is part of the national government’s broader UPLIFT initiative, which the DSWD describes as a package designed to assist poor, near-poor and low-income households amid economic challenges. Nationally, the expanded program is intended to reach millions of households.
More than cash assistance
The significance of the program goes beyond the immediate value of the assistance.
For families facing rising household expenses, the combination of cash and rice can help cover basic food requirements while providing additional resources for other daily needs.
Misamis Occidental officials have also emphasized the role of coordinated national and local government intervention in cushioning vulnerable communities from economic shocks.
Gov. Oaminal said the intervention was intended to help residents avoid feeling the full impact of the crisis and lessen the burden on affected households.
Rollout expected to reach more communities
The distribution in Jimenez and Panaon represents only the initial phase of the provincial rollout.
According to the provincial government, the UPLIFT assistance will continue across Misamis Occidental, bringing the program to additional beneficiaries in other local government units.
This makes the next phase particularly significant for residents who may qualify but have not yet received assistance.
The UPLIFT initiative is being implemented as a whole-of-government response to economic pressures, with national agencies coordinating interventions intended to protect livelihoods, food security and household purchasing power. The national UPLIFT framework was established to respond to the impact of external economic disruptions on Filipino households and the wider economy.
What Misamis Occidental residents should watch for
With the rollout expanding beyond Jimenez and Panaon, residents in other parts of the province should closely monitor announcements from their local government units and concerned government agencies regarding beneficiary validation, distribution schedules and eligibility.
The initial distribution does not mean that all Misamis Occidental residents automatically qualify for the assistance. Beneficiary selection and implementation remain subject to the program’s requirements and government validation procedures.
For now, the first 1,359 beneficiaries signal the start of a wider assistance rollout—one that could bring additional support to vulnerable households across the province in the months ahead.
