Thailand’s meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions (MICE) sector is showing signs of a sustained recovery, with the industry expected to generate around 200 billion baht in economic value.
The recovery reflects the return of international business events and corporate travel following years of disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Thailand has been rebuilding its position as a regional destination for conferences, exhibitions and incentive programmes.
The sector covers a broad range of activities, including international conferences, trade exhibitions, corporate meetings and incentive trips. It also supports related industries such as hotels, restaurants, transportation, retail and event services.
Industry officials have highlighted the contribution of MICE visitors, who typically spend across several parts of the economy during their stays. Large events can also generate additional demand for venues, accommodation, catering and local transportation.
Thailand’s tourism infrastructure, established convention facilities and international air connections have helped support the sector’s recovery. Bangkok remains an important centre for major business events, while other destinations are also seeking a larger share of the market.
The recovery is taking place as competition among destinations across Asia intensifies. Countries are investing in convention facilities, international events and incentives to attract business travellers and large-scale gatherings.
Thailand’s MICE industry is also adapting to changing expectations among organisers and visitors. Sustainability, technology and more specialised event experiences are becoming increasingly important considerations when companies select destinations.
The sector’s revival provides benefits beyond tourism receipts because business events can create opportunities for local suppliers and encourage international companies and organisations to engage with Thai businesses.
However, the industry remains exposed to global economic conditions, airline capacity, geopolitical developments and changes in corporate travel budgets. These factors can influence both the number of events held and the willingness of businesses to send participants overseas.
With international business travel continuing to recover, Thailand’s MICE industry is looking to build on the renewed demand and strengthen the country’s role as a regional hub for meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions.
