A hospital in Thailand has apologised to the family of a one-year-old boy after part of his right index finger was accidentally severed by an assistant nurse while medical staff were removing an intravenous line.
The incident happened at Loengnoktha Crown Prince Hospital in Yasothon province. The child had been receiving treatment at the hospital when the assistant nurse used scissors to cut through the gauze and dressing around the IV site.
According to reports, the nurse accidentally cut the toddler’s fingertip along with the dressing. The child began bleeding heavily, prompting medical staff to provide immediate treatment.
The hospital’s management has apologised to the boy’s parents and acknowledged the seriousness of what happened. Hospital officials are also investigating the incident to establish how the mistake occurred and determine whether further action is required.
The case has drawn attention because the injury happened during what should have been a routine procedure. The family is now facing the consequences of the permanent injury to the young child, while the hospital has said it will take steps to address the incident.
