SINGAPORE — Taiwanese actor-singer Austin Lin has spent much of 2026 working and filming overseas, but after what he describes as a fulfilling and nonstop year, the 38-year-old star is already looking ahead to something far more personal in 2027: time to slow down, relax and be with his beloved dog.
Lin was in Singapore on Sept. 9 for the cocktail party celebrating luxury watchmaker Audemars Piguet’s Perspective of Time exhibition at the National Museum of Singapore.
But away from the glamour of the high-profile brand event, the Taiwanese star revealed that what he wants most next year may be something surprisingly simple — more time at home.
“I spent quite a lot of time filming overseas this year,” Lin told AsiaOne.
“If I have more time next year to accompany my pet dog, whether to go out or just being at home, I think that would be great.”
A Nonstop 2026 Leaves Austin Lin Looking for a Break
Lin said 2026 has been an especially fulfilling year for his acting career, with multiple projects filmed in different locations.
However, fans will have to wait a little longer to find out exactly what he has been working on.
“I feel very lucky to be able to film in many amazing places,” Lin said, adding that the projects have yet to be announced.
He said he enjoyed creating the new productions under unique circumstances and is looking forward to their eventual release.
The busy schedule appears to have made one thing clear for the actor: after spending much of the year travelling and working, personal time has become increasingly valuable.
His Four-Year-Old Dog Aqua Is Part of the Plan
At the centre of Lin’s hopes for 2027 is his dog, Aqua.
The actor adopted the mixed-breed dog in 2022, and Aqua turned four in February this year.
For Lin, a break from the demanding entertainment schedule could mean something as simple as taking his dog out or spending a quiet day together at home.
It is a noticeably different picture from the fast-paced world of film sets, promotional events and overseas productions that has defined much of his 2026.
Austin Lin Also Worked on Singapore-Taiwan Production
One of Lin’s projects this year reportedly involved a cross-border production linking Singapore and Taiwan.
According to an earlier report by Vibes by 8World, Lin filmed the adventure reality show What a Trip 2, produced by Mediacorp and Taiwanese production house GrayScale Productions.
The production took him to Spain alongside Singapore hosts Seow Sin Nee and Herman Keh, Taiwanese singer-songwriter Yellow, rapper Ozi and violinist Richard Lee.
The project is another example of how Lin’s career has increasingly taken him beyond Taiwan and into international and regional productions.
Back in Singapore After a Year
Lin’s latest Singapore appearance also marked his return to the city-state roughly a year after his previous visit.
He visited Singapore in 2025 to promote his action-thriller film 96 Minutes, and said time appears to have passed remarkably quickly since then.
“It could be because I have been working non-stop,” he said, while expressing hope that audiences would look forward to his upcoming projects.
From Chilli Crab to Chicken Rice
Despite his busy schedule, Lin has also made time to enjoy Singapore’s famous food.
During his previous visit, he tried chilli crab.
This time, he sampled chicken rice and said he was looking forward to trying more local delicacies.
Singapore’s landmarks also left a lasting impression on the Taiwanese star.
Lin recalled his previous visit to Gardens by the Bay, where he lay on the ground to watch the nighttime light show.
He described the experience as enjoyable and said he hoped to return for another stroll, while also naming the Singapore Botanic Gardens as another place he likes.
From Red Carpets to a Quiet Life?
Austin Lin’s appearance at the Audemars Piguet event brought him back into the spotlight, but his comments offered fans a glimpse of the person behind the celebrity image.
After a year of overseas filming, undisclosed projects and nonstop work, his biggest wish for 2027 is not necessarily another blockbuster role or major international production.
It may simply be time.
Time to go out with Aqua.
Time to stay home.
And time to recharge before the next chapter of his career begins.
With several projects still waiting to be announced, however, fans may not have to wait long before Austin Lin steps back into the spotlight — and the biggest question now is: what has the Taiwanese star been secretly working on during his busiest year yet?
