A 65-year-old driver was taken to hospital after an SUV crashed into the side of his car in a T-bone collision in Tanjong Pagar on Wednesday evening.
The accident happened at about 7.35pm on Sept. 23 near the junction of Tras Street and Tras Link, close to Oasia Hotel Downtown and Carlton City Hotel.
Footage of the crash showed the front of a black SUV lodged deep into the driver’s side of the other vehicle. The impact left the car badly damaged, with its airbags deployed and the driver apparently trapped inside.
Singapore Civil Defence Force firefighters attended the scene and worked to reach the trapped driver through the rear passenger door.
A paramedic could also be seen treating another man near the roadside as emergency crews responded to the crash.
Police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force confirmed that the 65-year-old male driver was conscious when he was taken to Singapore General Hospital for treatment.
The circumstances leading to the collision have not been established publicly. Police investigations are ongoing.
The crash caused a significant emergency response at the busy Tanjong Pagar junction, with firefighters having to work around the severely damaged vehicles to free the trapped driver.
The incident is now under investigation as authorities work to establish how the SUV and car collided — with the dramatic rescue highlighting the serious consequences that can follow a side-impact crash at a busy city junction.
