SHIRLEY KUAN FIRES BACK: “BEA DID NOT MAKE ME RICH” — BUT HER REVELATIONS ABOUT THE WEDDING DRAMA RAISE EVEN BIGGER QUESTIONS

MANILA, Philippines — Veteran talent manager Shirley Kuan has pushed back strongly against claims that Bea Alonzo was her financial “cash cow,” while also giving her most detailed account yet of the controversy surrounding Alonzo’s canceled wedding to businessman Vincent Co.

Kuan said she was offended by suggestions that her professional relationship with Alonzo was primarily motivated by money.

“I just wanna make this clear, ha. Bea did not make me rich nor will she make me poor,” Kuan said during an intimate interview with members of the entertainment press on Aug. 24.

She added that she has been in the Philippine entertainment industry for more than three decades and currently handles several established personalities.

“So stop calling her my cash cow. I have bigger stars that I’m handling who are busier than her,” Kuan said.

PEP.ph reported that Kuan specifically cited artists including Helen Gamboa, Albert Martinez, Hilda Koronel, Donna Cruz, Agot Isidro and Andrea Brillantes among the personalities she manages.

Kuan: “Why Am I Supposed to Be the Villain?”

The “cash cow” controversy is only one part of the increasingly public fallout between Kuan and Alonzo.

Kuan confirmed that she ended her professional relationship with Alonzo on Aug. 11, 2026, after nearly six years as the actress’ manager.

According to Kuan’s account, the relationship had become strained amid accusations that she had interfered in Alonzo’s relationship and had a role in the cancellation of the actress’ planned wedding in Spain.

Kuan has repeatedly denied those allegations.

She said she directly asked Alonzo whether she had ever told the actress to cancel the wedding—even as a joke—and claimed Alonzo answered no.

Kuan also challenged those who accused her of meddling to produce evidence, saying she was prepared to present what she described as her own “receipts.” PEP.ph separately reported her denial that she caused the wedding cancellation.

She Says She Stayed Silent at Bea’s Request

One of Kuan’s most significant claims concerns what happened after reports began circulating about the canceled wedding.

Kuan said she contacted Alonzo after seeing reports blaming her for the situation. According to Kuan, Alonzo asked her not to speak publicly because she did not want the controversy to become bigger.

Kuan said she honored that request and remained silent even as accusations against her continued.

“I kept quiet,” she said, explaining that she did so because she had promised Alonzo she would not discuss the matter publicly.

But Kuan said the situation eventually became unbearable because she felt she was being portrayed as the person responsible for the wedding controversy.

Philstar reported the same account, including Kuan’s claim that she had asked Alonzo directly whether she had ever instructed her to cancel the wedding.

Kuan Denies Interfering in the Prenup

Kuan also rejected claims that she interfered with Alonzo’s prenuptial agreement.

She said she knew a prenup was being prepared but claimed she never saw the document and did not attempt to influence its contents.

She further said she intentionally kept her distance from the wedding preparations because she respected Alonzo’s private life.

Kuan pointed to the fact that she had been preparing to attend the Spain wedding herself, including having a gown made and arranging travel.

According to her account, she had even incurred significant travel-related expenses in anticipation of the ceremony.

She also claimed that, after the wedding was called off, she was asked to help communicate the cancellation to guests.

These details were also reported by Philstar in its Aug. 25 account of Kuan’s interview.

The “Last Straw” That Ended Their Professional Relationship

Kuan said the wedding controversy was not the only reason she ultimately resigned.

She identified another incident involving an event connected to a deal she said she had secured for Alonzo.

According to Kuan, she later learned from the client that she had been disinvited from the event.

Kuan said she found the incident deeply offensive and confronted Alonzo about it.

Alonzo, according to Kuan, denied knowing anything about the disinvitation.

Kuan then told the actress that she was ending their professional relationship.

“As of this very moment, and as of this very day, I am no longer your manager,” Kuan recalled telling Alonzo.

PEP.ph likewise identified the alleged disinvitation as the “last straw” Kuan cited in explaining her Aug. 11 resignation.

ABS-CBN Confirms the Management Change

The management split has since been independently reported by ABS-CBN News.

The network reported that Kuan denied involvement in the canceled wedding and prenup controversy. It also reported that Chris Cahilig has joined Alonzo’s circle as her interim agent following Kuan’s resignation.

That development provides additional confirmation that the professional relationship between Alonzo and Kuan has indeed ended, even though the competing accounts surrounding the breakup remain disputed.

Kuan Says She Finally Decided to Speak

Kuan said she initially intended to continue keeping quiet.

But after another incident in which she said a fellow talent manager contacted her to hear her side of the controversy, she decided that she could no longer remain silent.

She said the continuing attacks were damaging her reputation after more than 30 years in show business.

“What satisfaction are they getting by destroying my good name and reputation?” she asked.

Kuan said she felt relieved after finally telling her side of the story.

“I feel good because nailabas mo na. Ang tagal kong kinimkim,” she said.

What Happens Next?

For now, the controversy remains a clash of accounts.

Kuan has publicly denied interfering in Alonzo’s relationship, wedding plans or prenup and has maintained that she was unfairly blamed for the canceled ceremony.

At the same time, her decision to speak publicly has placed the former manager-actress relationship under an even brighter spotlight.

As of the latest reports from Philstar and ABS-CBN News, Alonzo had not publicly responded to Kuan’s latest statements.

The bigger question now is whether Alonzo will address Kuan’s allegations directly—or whether the former manager’s promise to reveal her “receipts” will lead to another chapter in one of Philippine showbiz’s most closely watched controversies.
