Sassa Gurl is taking on a bigger role behind the camera as producer and lead star of “Multwoh (Patay na Patay Sa’yo),” a queer horror-comedy that puts love, loss and unfinished feelings at the center of its story.
Directed and written by Rodina Singh, “Multwoh” follows a college queer who dies unexpectedly in a dormitory and returns as a ghost. But instead of coming back for revenge, the spirit has unfinished romantic business: finally finding the courage to tell someone, “I love you.”
The film gives Sassa Gurl the dual challenge of performing in front of the camera while helping bring the project to life as a producer. In earlier reports, Sassa explained that producing taught her how much planning and coordination are required to make a movie, particularly when working with limited resources.
The project began attracting attention in 2025 after Sassa released a teaser featuring her alongside Martin del Rosario. At the time, she revealed that she was producing the film herself after the project struggled to secure funding.
The cast has since changed. Martin del Rosario had to leave because the film’s shooting schedule conflicted with his other commitments. He was replaced by Joao Constancia, whom Sassa has praised for bringing unexpected depth and talent to the role.
That change has not stopped the film from moving forward. Instead, “Multwoh” has earned a place in the third Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival, where it joins six other full-length Filipino films showcasing different genres and stories.
Singh’s film stands out for mixing romance, comedy and supernatural elements. At its heart is a simple but emotionally powerful question: What happens when someone dies before getting the chance to say what they truly feel?
“Multwoh” also plays with a familiar trope in horror cinema—the queer character who dies—and turns it into something more hopeful. Rather than making death the end of the character’s story, the film uses the supernatural premise to explore love that remains unfinished even after death.
The current cast includes Sassa Gurl, Joao Constancia, John Lapus, Iyah Mina, Phi Palmos, Mae Paner, Buboy Villar, Pipay, Gaia Poly, Yani Villarosa, Migs Almendras, KaladKaren, Inah Evans, Christian Antolin, Lui Manansala, Sofia Trazona, Arman Salon, Chino Liu, Tart Carlos and Eric Fructuoso.
The film is scheduled to screen during the Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival from September 23 to October 4, 2026, at Gateway Cineplex 18, Trinoma, Fairview Terraces, Ayala Malls Feliz, Ayala Malls Circuit, Ayala Malls Manila Bay and Market! Market!.
Regular tickets are priced at ₱250, while discounted tickets are ₱200 for qualified viewers including students, senior citizens and persons with disabilities. A festival pass is also available for ₱2,000.
For Sassa Gurl, “Multwoh” represents more than another acting project. It marks a significant step into filmmaking and production—and gives a queer Filipino love story the chance to tell its story on the big screen.
And perhaps that is the film’s most intriguing promise: in “Multwoh,” death may end a life, but it apparently cannot stop someone from chasing the person they love.
