One Prawn & Co to Close Its New Bahru Restaurant After Two Years

Singapore Seafood Spot Announces Final Service on Oct. 4 as Its Culinary Journey Enters a New Chapter

Singapore food lovers have a little over a month left to visit One Prawn & Co at New Bahru, with the modern Asian seafood restaurant confirming that it will close its doors on Oct. 4, 2026.

The restaurant announced the decision on Sept. 1, saying that after careful consideration, the timing felt right to bring the chapter to a close as the group continues to evolve. The team described the decision as a difficult one and said One Prawn & Co had become an important part of its journey.

The closure comes just over two years after the New Bahru restaurant opened in 2024.

From a Golden Mile hawker stall to an upmarket seafood restaurant

One Prawn & Co’s story began much more modestly.

Chef-owner Gwyneth Ang started the business in 2019 at Golden Mile Food Centre, where it operated as One Prawn Noodle and built its reputation around Penang-style prawn noodles.

Ang, who previously worked at restaurants including Burnt Ends, later expanded the business to MacPherson. That outlet went on to receive a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2022, helping establish the brand as one of Singapore’s notable modern takes on the humble prawn noodle.

In 2024, the MacPherson restaurant was rebranded as Zhup Zhup by One Prawn & Co, allowing the One Prawn & Co name to take on a completely different identity at New Bahru.

The New Bahru concept was a major departure

Unlike its original hawker-inspired format, the New Bahru restaurant focused on modern Asian seafood, wood-fire cooking and dry-aged fish.

The 82-seat restaurant was designed as a more polished but still relaxed dining experience, with an open kitchen and a wood-fire grill at its centre. Contemporary dishes combined Asian flavours with techniques and influences drawn from Ang’s culinary background.

The restaurant’s menu evolved over time, with recent highlights including Prawn Bisque Ramen, Smoky Prawn Toast, Typhoon Shelter Prawn and Wood-Fired Scorched Hor Fun.

Its Fireline dinner menu, introduced in 2026, offered a seven-course experience built around seafood, smoke and wood-fire cooking at $98 per person, with a minimum of two diners.

Not exactly the end of the One Prawn story

While the New Bahru restaurant is closing, Zhup Zhup at MacPherson will remain open.

That means fans of Ang’s original prawn-noodle concept will still have a place to go. Zhup Zhup continues to serve the signature prawn broth and other seafood-focused dishes, while carrying forward the legacy of the original One Prawn & Co concept.

The restaurant’s closure statement indicates that the group intends to focus its energy on its other brands rather than continue reshaping the New Bahru concept.

Fans have already begun saying goodbye

News of the closure quickly prompted disappointed reactions from diners, with customers sharing memories of meals at the restaurant and saying they planned to return before its final service.

For a restaurant that began with a bowl of prawn noodles at a hawker centre and eventually evolved into an ambitious wood-fire seafood destination, One Prawn & Co’s New Bahru chapter may have been relatively short — but its transformation was significant.

One Prawn & Co will operate at 46 Kim Yam Road, #01-10, New Bahru, Singapore 239351, until Oct. 4, 2026. Its current listed hours are Wednesday to Friday, 11am–3pm and 6pm–10pm, and Saturday to Sunday, 11am–4:30pm and 6pm–10pm; it is closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
