My Chemical Romance has given fans its strongest hint yet that a new album could finally be on the way, more than 15 years after the band’s last studio record.
Frontman Gerard Way addressed the possibility during My Chemical Romance’s concert at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, on Sept. 12, telling the crowd that the band has always wanted to make another record.
The comments immediately reignited excitement among fans who have spent years waiting for what would effectively become the band’s fifth studio album.

Speaking during the final North American show of the band’s 2026 tour, Way said the group has wanted to make another record and hopes circumstances will allow them to do so.
He also thanked fans for keeping the band going and said they deserved another record, while making clear that there is currently no confirmed release date.
That distinction is important: My Chemical Romance has not officially announced that a new album is being recorded.
Way’s comments instead suggest that the idea remains very much alive within the band.
It has been 16 years since Danger Days
My Chemical Romance’s last studio album was 2010’s Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys.
The band subsequently went on hiatus and officially reunited in 2019, but it has released only one new original song since then: The Foundations of Decay, which arrived in 2022.
A new full-length album would therefore be the band’s first since Danger Days, ending a gap of roughly 16 years.
The long wait has helped turn the possibility of a fifth album into one of the most anticipated releases among the band’s longtime fans.
The Foundations of Decay hinted at a possible new era
When The Foundations of Decay was released in 2022, it marked My Chemical Romance’s first new music since the band’s reunion.
The song was widely viewed as a significant return for the group, combining elements of its darker earlier sound with a more expansive approach.
However, no full album followed.
The death of longtime collaborator Doug McKean in 2022 also affected the band’s plans. McKean had worked closely with My Chemical Romance on several major projects and was involved in the production of The Foundations of Decay.
Way’s latest comments suggest that the desire to continue creating music has survived those setbacks.

The album speculation comes as My Chemical Romance celebrates the 20th anniversary of The Black Parade, the record that transformed the band into one of the biggest rock acts of the 2000s.
The group has been performing the album as part of its Long Live The Black Parade tour, alongside songs and rarities from across its catalogue.
The tour has taken the band through major venues in North America, Europe and Asia, giving My Chemical Romance a renewed presence on the global concert circuit.

For fans who grew up with Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, The Black Parade and Danger Days, another album would represent the first opportunity in more than a decade to hear a completely new My Chemical Romance era.
