SINGAPORE — A vegetation fire spanning an area roughly the size of four football fields broke out near Seletar Link and Seletar South Link on Saturday, Aug 29, prompting a firefighting operation involving water jets and an unmanned firefighting machine.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the fire at about 11.05am. The blaze involved vegetation measuring approximately 150m by 200m, affecting about three hectares of greenery.
Firefighters brought the flames under control using two water jets and an unmanned firefighting machine, highlighting the scale of the operation needed to tackle the blaze.
Eyewitness Saw Smoke and Flames
A Punggol resident, Shawn Cheong, told Channel News Asia (CNA) that he spotted smoke and flames while driving in the area and reported the fire at around 11.20am.
When he returned at about 3.30pm, he was surprised to find multiple SCDF and police vehicles still at the scene.
“When I was driving back, I thought the firefighting would have been over,” Cheong told CNA, saying he had initially believed the fire was not as large as it appeared.
No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
What Caused the Seletar Fire?
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and authorities have not announced what sparked the blaze. SCDF also did not specify the exact time the fire was fully extinguished.
