Lea Salonga has officially etched her name into Hollywood history.
The award-winning Filipino actress and singer received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on September 4, 2026, becoming the first Filipina to receive the prestigious honor. The ceremony took place outside the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood, where Salonga was presented with the 2,855th star in the Walk of Fame’s Live Performance category.
The recognition marks another extraordinary milestone in a career that has already taken Salonga from Manila stages to Broadway, Disney films and some of the world’s biggest concert venues.
A milestone decades in the making
Salonga became internationally famous after originating the role of Kim in the musical Miss Saigon, a performance that earned her the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical in 1991, when she was just 20 years old.
She subsequently made history as the first Asian actress to play Éponine on Broadway’s Les Misérables, later returning to the production as Fantine.
Her career expanded far beyond Broadway.
Millions around the world know Salonga as the singing voice of Princess Jasmine in Disney’s Aladdin and Fa Mulan in Mulan and Mulan II. Her work on those films helped make her voice instantly recognizable to audiences across generations, and Disney later named her a Disney Legend.
Hollywood finally puts her name in the spotlight
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce described Salonga as a trailblazer whose decades-long career have inspired audiences worldwide.
The Chamber specifically highlighted the significance of her becoming the first Filipina to receive a Walk of Fame star, calling the achievement a milestone not only for Salonga but also for Filipino communities and future generations of artists.
The ceremony featured actress Ming-Na Wen, who worked with Salonga on Mulan, while other entertainment figures also celebrated the milestone. Entertainment Weekly reported that Brandy and Darren Criss were among those who paid tribute to Salonga during the celebration.
Her message was bigger than the star
For Salonga, the moment was not simply about receiving another award.
During her speech, she reflected on growing up without seeing many people who looked like her achieving the kind of international success she dreamed of.
That has changed.
Salonga pointed to the growing number of Filipino and Asian performers now working internationally and creating opportunities that once seemed almost impossible.
Her hope is that her name on Hollywood Boulevard will give another young Filipino the confidence to believe that a career on the world’s biggest stages is possible.
That message has resonated particularly strongly in the Philippines, where fellow celebrities and public figures quickly celebrated the historic achievement.
She isn’t slowing down
Perhaps the most striking part of Salonga’s milestone is that the Hollywood star arrives while her career is still moving forward.
The Hollywood Walk of Fame notes that she most recently starred in Old Friends alongside Bernadette Peters and has continued working across Broadway, television, film, animation and international concert stages.
She is also set to star as the lead villain in DreamWorks Animation’s upcoming fantasy film Forgotten Island, scheduled for release later this month.
Her recent screen work also includes Netflix’s animated hit KPop Demon Hunters, adding another major international project to an already remarkable résumé.
From Manila to Hollywood Boulevard
Salonga’s achievement is particularly powerful because her story is not simply one of Hollywood success.
