Joshua Garcia and Julia Barretto are once again bringing their much-loved JoshLia chemistry to the big screen, but their latest reunion is proving to be more challenging than simply stepping back in front of the cameras together.
The former couple is set to star in “Always Yours, Never Mine,” an upcoming romance-drama from ABS-CBN Studios and Star Cinema. The film is directed by Cathy Garcia-Sampana, with a story by Olivia Lamasan, Trishtan Perez, and Vanessa Valdez. It is scheduled to open in Philippine cinemas on September 30, 2026.
According to ABS-CBN Entertainment’s latest report, the project presented Joshua and Julia with a different kind of challenge as actors. Their reunion comes after years of personal and professional growth, making their return as an onscreen pair a highly anticipated moment for fans of JoshLia.
The interest surrounding the movie has been building since its screen-test release in August. Reports from Philippine entertainment media said the preview generated millions of views across platforms, with audiences quickly taking notice of the pair’s emotional performances and familiar onscreen connection.
That anticipation intensified when Joshua and Julia reunited publicly for the movie’s promotional activities and later unveiled its official poster in Vigan, Ilocos Sur. The poster reveal was held along the historic Calle Crisologo, one of the locations used during filming.
A reunion beyond the usual JoshLia formula
The upcoming movie arrives two years after Joshua and Julia reunited for “Un/Happy for You,” another film that drew considerable attention because of their history as a former couple and their established onscreen chemistry.
Their previous reunion also demonstrated how much their approach to working together had evolved. In earlier interviews, both actors emphasized professionalism and their ability to establish boundaries while working on emotionally demanding material.
“Always Yours, Never Mine” now gives them another opportunity to explore a complicated relationship onscreen, while working under Cathy Garcia-Sampana, one of Philippine cinema’s most prominent romance-drama directors.
Star-studded cast adds to anticipation
Joshua and Julia will be joined by a wide ensemble cast that includes veteran actress Chanda Romero and Kapuso star Bianca Umali, who is making her first movie project with Star Cinema.
The cast also includes Ina Raymundo, Franco Laurel, Reign Parani, Paolo Gumabao, Jan Silverio, Karen Reyes, Bob Jbeili, Migs Almendras, Paulo Angeles, and Joy Barcoma.
With its September 30 theatrical release approaching, the biggest question surrounding “Always Yours, Never Mine” is whether JoshLia can once again translate their undeniable onscreen connection into another major cinema draw.
For fans who have followed Joshua Garcia and Julia Barretto from their earlier projects to their more mature collaborations, this reunion promises more than nostalgia. It could show just how far the two actors have grown since their first chapter together.
And if the emotional intensity of their early screen test is any indication, audiences may be in for another JoshLia story that hits much closer to the heart than expected.
