Gurugram Woman Biker Questions Driver After Viral Crash

A woman motorcyclist in Gurugram, India, has questioned a driver who allegedly rammed his car into her motorcycle in an incident that was captured on video and later went viral online.

The incident happened on Sunday (Sept 13), when Shivani Chauhan, who uses the name Sia online, was riding with other motorcyclists in Gurugram.

Footage from her motorcycle appears to show a car approaching from behind before moving across lanes and striking the side of her bike. The impact sent Chauhan off the motorcycle, while the bike continued to skid along the road.

Another motorcyclist, Abhishek Sharma, also recorded the incident from behind. His footage appears to show the driver, identified as Kalyan Bainsla, signalling for Chauhan to stop before the car moved towards her motorcycle and collided with it.

Chauhan later challenged Bainsla’s account that the incident was an accident, asking why he did not stop after the collision if it had been unintentional.

Bainsla has denied deliberately hitting her. According to reports, he claimed that Chauhan and other riders had been driving aggressively and that the collision was accidental.

Chauhan disputed those claims and alleged that the driver had followed her before striking her motorcycle. She also alleged that the people inside the car had been drinking, although that allegation has not been independently established.

Following the circulation of the videos, Gurugram Police registered a case and added an attempted-murder charge under Section 109 of India’s Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita after reviewing video evidence. The section carries a potential prison sentence of up to 10 years.

Bainsla was subsequently arrested in Rajasthan, according to Indian media reports. Police said the investigation into the circumstances of the crash was continuing.

The incident has drawn widespread attention online, with the videos becoming central to the dispute over whether the collision was accidental or deliberate. Authorities are continuing to examine the available footage and other evidence as the case proceeds.
