MANILA, Philippines — Are Gela Atayde and Zaijian Jaranilla finally making their relationship public?
That is the question currently making the rounds among Filipino entertainment fans after Gela appeared to give her strongest public hint yet about her rumored romance with Zaijian.
On August 23, Gela took to Instagram to greet Zaijian on his 25th birthday, sharing two photos of the actor along with a particularly affectionate message.
“hbd to my idol since ’09 Love you, sungit,” Gela wrote, accompanied by heart and star emojis.
The seemingly simple birthday greeting immediately caught the attention of netizens, many of whom interpreted the post as a possible “hard launch” of the pair’s long-rumored relationship.
From ‘soft launch’ to ‘hard launch’?
The romance speculation surrounding Gela and Zaijian did not begin with the latest birthday greeting.
In July 2025, Gela posted a TikTok featuring a man whose face was partly obscured. The post carried a romantic caption about finding someone who provides “soft love” and “safe arms.” Some social media users speculated that the mystery man was Zaijian, although the post itself did not identify him.
The speculation intensified in March 2026 when Gela was asked during a media event for the Prime Video series The Silent Noise whether someone was making her “bloom.”
She answered, “Siguro po.”
When asked if she was already in love, Gela replied, “Opo.”
She also confirmed that the person was from showbiz and said their relationship had already been going on for some time, while stopping short of naming the person.
Zaijian, meanwhile, was asked directly about the rumors surrounding him and Gela.
Instead of confirming or denying the relationship, he famously answered, “Secret!” and later indicated that he preferred to keep his personal life private. ABS-CBN and other entertainment outlets reported on his coy response.
Then came the hand-holding sighting
The latest development made the speculation even harder to ignore.
According to PEP, Gela and Zaijian were spotted holding hands at Shangri-La Plaza in Mandaluyong on August 14. Entertainment columnist Gorgy Rula reportedly captured the pair while they were at a restaurant.
The sighting quickly circulated online because it appeared to show the two spending time together in a noticeably affectionate manner.
Coming just days before Zaijian’s birthday, the sighting added another layer to the growing speculation surrounding the two actors.
Zaijian has also been welcomed by the Atayde family
Another detail that has fueled interest is Zaijian’s repeated presence around Gela’s family.
In May 2026, Zaijian attended the birthday celebration of Gela’s mother, veteran actress Sylvia Sanchez. ABS-CBN reported his presence at the family gathering.
Zaijian had also previously been spotted with members of the Atayde family, further prompting fans to wonder whether his relationship with Gela had become more serious.
In March, entertainment reports likewise noted his presence at a family celebration involving Sylvia Sanchez and Art Atayde.
Their connection goes beyond social media
Gela and Zaijian are also familiar faces to fans because they worked together in the ABS-CBN youth drama Senior High and its sequel, High Street.
The two were part of the ensemble cast of both projects, giving them plenty of opportunities to develop a friendship away from the spotlight.
Their professional connection, however, eventually became intertwined with persistent dating speculation.
By early 2026, the two had already been repeatedly seen together, while both remained relatively guarded about confirming the nature of their relationship.
So, are Gela and Zaijian officially together?
For now, the safest answer is that the two appear to be romantically linked, but they have not publicly issued a formal confirmation explicitly labeling themselves as boyfriend and girlfriend.
What has changed is how openly affectionate their public interactions have become.
Gela has already acknowledged being in love with a fellow showbiz personality. Zaijian has been seen with her family. The pair were reportedly photographed holding hands in public. And now Gela has publicly told Zaijian, “Love you, sungit,” on his birthday.
Taken together, those developments explain why fans are calling the latest Instagram post a possible hard launch.
But until either Gela or Zaijian directly confirms their relationship, the “official couple” label remains an interpretation rather than a formal announcement.
