Cebu Police Arrest More Than 300 in Anti-Criminality Operations

Cebu police have arrested more than 300 people in a series of anti-criminality operations carried out across the province, as authorities intensify efforts to maintain peace and order in communities.

The operations were conducted under the Safer Cities Initiative, a police campaign that combines enforcement, preventive patrols and coordination with local government units.

Police operations were carried out across various areas of Cebu, targeting violations of national laws as well as local ordinances.

Hundreds arrested in province-wide operations

The Cebu Police Provincial Office reported that more than 300 operations were conducted by different police stations as part of the campaign.

The operations resulted in hundreds of arrests involving various offenses.

The campaign forms part of the police force’s broader Anti-Criminality Plan, which aims to prevent violations and maintain public order through a stronger police presence in communities.

Authorities said the operations are not focused solely on increasing the number of arrests, but also on addressing violations that could affect public safety and the orderly use of public spaces.

Traffic violations account for largest share

Violations of city and municipal traffic ordinances accounted for the largest number of cases recorded during the operations.

Police also apprehended individuals for violations involving public drinking, smoking in public places and curfew restrictions.

Some of those apprehended were minors who were found violating local curfew regulations.

Other violations included walking in public areas without appropriate clothing, using karaoke equipment beyond permitted hours and breaches involving the wearing of balaclavas.

The operations also resulted in the collection of fines from individuals cited for various ordinance violations.

Safer Cities Initiative expands police presence

The Cebu police campaign forms part of the Safer Cities Initiative, which is designed to strengthen public safety through a combination of enforcement and prevention.

Aside from arrests and the implementation of local ordinances, police activities include preventive patrols, community engagement and coordination with local government units.

The initiative is intended to maintain a visible police presence while encouraging residents to cooperate with authorities in addressing problems within their communities.

Cebu police officials said sustained implementation of the programme is aimed at maintaining peace and order rather than simply increasing the number of people apprehended.

Police urge residents to follow local rules

Authorities are urging residents to comply with national laws and local ordinances as police operations continue across Cebu.

Police also emphasised that cooperation between law enforcement and communities is important in preventing violations before they develop into more serious public-safety problems.

The latest operations reflect the province’s continued push for stronger enforcement and preventive policing, with authorities expected to maintain patrols and community-based activities as part of the Safer Cities Initiative.
