A 29-year-old carpenter was injured after he was allegedly stabbed several times by his friend following an altercation in Barangay Lorega, Cebu City, on September 20, 2026.
The victim, identified by the alias “Mark,” sustained wounds to his arm, chest and back after the incident shortly after 6 p.m. He was taken for medical treatment and remained under observation following the attack.
The suspect, identified as 25-year-old “Jay,” also suffered injuries after the victim allegedly struck him with a bottle during the confrontation. Both men are residents of the same barangay and reportedly knew each other well.
Police from the Parian Police Station responded after receiving a report about the disturbance. During questioning, the suspect said the two friends encountered each other while drinking near their neighborhood.
According to the suspect’s account, he accidentally bumped into the victim, which allegedly angered Mark. The suspect claimed that the victim then struck him with a bottle, prompting him to retaliate by stabbing the victim with a knife he was carrying.
The suspect told police that he had the knife because he was planning to repair his motorcycle. He also said he and the victim had previously been close friends but that he had begun avoiding him because of what he described as disruptive behavior when drinking.
He further alleged that the victim had repeatedly made provocative remarks toward him since they stopped associating, eventually leading to their confrontation and the stabbing.
Police are preparing a complaint for frustrated homicide if the victim decides to pursue charges. The circumstances surrounding the confrontation remain subject to the investigation and the legal process.
