A 31-year-old man was taken to hospital after the car he was driving skidded, crashed into a road divider and overturned in Ang Mo Kio in the early hours of September 24.
The accident happened at about 12.40am near the junction of Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5 and Ang Mo Kio Industrial Park 2, according to police.
Images and video circulating on social media showed extensive damage to the road divider fencing, which had partially collapsed following the impact. The overturned car came to rest across the right two lanes of the three-lane road, while a police fast-response vehicle helped divert traffic around the crash site.
Police said the car is believed to have skidded before hitting the divider.
Singapore Civil Defence Force paramedics transported the male driver to Tan Tock Seng Hospital while he was conscious. He is assisting with ongoing police investigations, and no further details about the cause of the skid or his injuries have been released.
The crash also caused significant damage to roadside infrastructure, with sections of the fencing visibly bent and displaced after the vehicle overturned.
The incident comes just days after another accident was reported along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5. On September 22, a car and taxi were involved in a separate collision at around 1.45am.
A 33-year-old male car driver was arrested in connection with the earlier accident for allegedly driving under the influence of drugs. Police also seized a vaporiser and pod found in his possession and referred them to the Health Sciences Authority. No injuries were reported in that incident.
The two incidents are being investigated separately, and there is no indication that they were connected.
For the latest crash, authorities have not announced whether speed, road conditions, mechanical problems or another factor contributed to the vehicle skidding. The ongoing investigation is expected to establish what happened immediately before the car lost control.
The bigger question now is what caused the vehicle to skid and overturn, and whether the investigation will uncover any additional factors behind the dramatic crash at the Ang Mo Kio junction.
