BLACKPINK member Lisa has opened up about the pressures she experienced while rising to global fame, saying the challenges of growing up in the K-pop industry helped shape the person she is today.
The 29-year-old singer became a star as a teenager after joining BLACKPINK, one of the world’s most successful girl groups. Looking back on her early years in the industry, Lisa said the experience was difficult for a young performer but ultimately influenced her personality and outlook.
Speaking to Variety, Lisa acknowledged that the demands of being part of a K-pop group were not easy. She also reflected on seeing friends leave the industry, describing those experiences as painful while recognising that people move through different stages in their lives.
Lisa said she was grateful for what she experienced and the lessons she gained along the way. She also expressed pride in having successfully made it through the intense audition process that eventually led to her becoming a member of BLACKPINK.
She recalled the pressure of performing in front of large groups of people while knowing that trainees could be eliminated from the competition. Despite the uncertainty, she remembered the experience positively and looked back with amazement at how much work she and her groupmates put into developing their performances and choreography.
Beyond her work with BLACKPINK, Lisa has also pursued a solo career and explored acting. She made her acting debut in 2025 in HBO’s The White Lotus, taking on a role that marked a new direction in her career.
Lisa previously explained that she turned to acting partly because she wanted to find new sources of inspiration after spending more than a decade focused primarily on music and performance.
She said acting was something she had not originally wanted to try when she was younger, although her mother had encouraged her to explore the field and even sent her to an acting school as a child.
Lisa’s willingness to explore new creative opportunities comes as she continues to balance her career as a member of BLACKPINK with her individual projects.
Her experiences have also given her a different perspective on fame, success and personal growth, as she continues to expand her career beyond the K-pop stage.
