Lisa may be pursuing a solo career, but the BLACKPINK star says she still has the full support of Jennie, Jisoo and Rosé — with her bandmates recently texting her to say they cannot wait to watch her upcoming documentary, Always Lalisa.
Speaking after the documentary’s premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, Lisa described her fellow BLACKPINK members as more than colleagues, calling them her sisters and family.
Despite each member pursuing individual projects, Lisa said they continue to stay in touch and support one another.
“They’re like my sisters. They’re like my family,” Lisa said, adding that they still text each other even while working separately.
With Always Lalisa nearing its theatrical release, Lisa revealed that her bandmates sent her messages saying they were excited to watch the film.
The documentary offers fans an unusually intimate look at how Lisa works behind the scenes, giving viewers a glimpse beyond her highly polished image as a global K-pop superstar.
“They get to see all the behind the scenes, like how I work,” Lisa said. “I hope they enjoy it.”
A closer look at Lisa beyond BLACKPINK
Always Lalisa follows a pivotal period in Lisa’s life as she explored her identity and ambitions outside BLACKPINK.
The documentary chronicles her solo career between 2024 and 2025, including the release of her debut solo album Alter Ego, her acting debut in HBO’s The White Lotus and preparations for her solo performance at Coachella.
Directed by Sue Kim, the film aims to show a side of Lisa that audiences rarely see.
Rather than focusing solely on the glamorous image associated with K-pop, the documentary follows the work, uncertainty and personal growth behind Lisa’s transition into a solo artist and actress.
Lisa has previously spoken about how stepping into solo projects pushed her to become more confident about expressing her own creative preferences.
She said one of the biggest lessons she has learned is the importance of clearly saying what she likes and dislikes instead of simply accepting things to avoid conflict.
That independence has become increasingly important as all four BLACKPINK members have expanded their individual careers.
Lisa insists BLACKPINK remains important
Although the members have taken different paths with their solo work, Lisa made it clear that BLACKPINK remains central to her life.
She has repeatedly expressed pride in the group and said there was never any question about continuing as BLACKPINK.
The group returned to group activities in 2026 with the mini-album DEADLINE, marking their first release in more than three years.
For Lisa, the experience of performing alongside Jennie, Jisoo and Rosé remains different from anything she does alone.
She has previously described the energy between the four members as something they naturally share onstage, with each member pushing the others to give more.
That bond is now being reflected offstage as well, with the members continuing to cheer one another on despite their increasingly busy solo careers.
The story behind ‘Lalisa’
The documentary’s title also carries personal meaning for Lisa.
Born Pranpriya Manobal, she recently revealed that she legally changed her first name to Lalisa when she was 13 after a fortune teller suggested the name.
In Thai, Lalisa is associated with the meaning “one who is praised.”
Lisa has said she remains happy with the decision and sees the name as part of her identity from the beginning of her journey.
From a teenage trainee in Thailand to a BLACKPINK member and now a global solo performer and actress, Always Lalisa traces the journey that shaped the superstar fans know today.
The documentary premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sept 11 and is scheduled to open in cinemas on Oct 12.
For BLACKPINK fans, however, one of the most anticipated parts may be seeing Lisa away from the stage — and knowing that the three women who shared her rise to global fame will be watching alongside them.
