SINGAPORE — Six men aged between 23 and 76 are set to be charged in court over their alleged involvement in separate molest cases, with the youngest alleged victim being a 17-year-old girl.
Singapore police said the cases took place between May 2025 and July 2026. The six men are scheduled to be charged in court on Sept 10.
Teen allegedly molested along Silat Avenue
The youngest alleged victim was a 17-year-old girl who police said was molested by a 34-year-old man along Silat Avenue on Dec 15, 2025.
The incident was promptly reported, and police later established the man’s identity through follow-up investigations before arresting him.
He is expected to face two charges of outrage of modesty and two additional charges involving allegedly uttering words and making a gesture intended to insult another person’s modesty.
Alleged incident at Singapore General Hospital
Another case involved a 76-year-old man accused of molesting a 22-year-old woman at Singapore General Hospital on May 27, 2025.
Police said they identified the man through follow-up investigations.
He is expected to face one molest charge and another charge for allegedly uttering words intended to insult another person’s modesty.
Four others also face molest charges
The remaining four men are aged between 23 and 36.
They are expected to face charges of outrage of modesty, without the additional charges faced by the two other accused men.
Members of public helped detect several cases
Police said several of the cases were successfully detected with help from bystanders, friends, security personnel and other members of the public.
Some stepped in to assist alleged victims or promptly alerted the authorities.
Police said such actions helped protect victims, preserve evidence and enable officers to take action more quickly.
Police urge public to follow SPOT protocol
Members of the public are encouraged to remain alert when they witness or encounter potential sexual crimes.
Police highlighted the SPOT protocol, which stands for:
- Spot potential victims and danger
- Protect those who may be at risk
- Observe important details
- Tell the authorities
The approach is intended to encourage members of the public to safely play a role in protecting potential victims and reporting suspected offences.
More than 760 cases reported in first half of 2026
Singapore recorded 762 outrage of modesty cases between January and June 2026, compared with 739 cases during the same period a year earlier.
The cases accounted for 7.4 per cent of all physical crime cases reported during the first half of the year.
According to police, the three most common locations for outrage of modesty offences were:
- Residential premises
- Public transport
- Public entertainment outlets
Cases reported at residential premises rose to 227 in the first half of 2026, up from 172 during the corresponding period in 2025.
Possible penalties
The offence of outrage of modesty can carry a penalty of up to three years in jail, a fine, caning, or a combination of these punishments.
