BANGKOK — Thai health authorities have launched an investigation into a Bangkok clinic after British-Nigerian influencer Igho “Tiny” Ubiribo died following a penile filler procedure earlier this year.
The investigation was ordered after authorities reviewed the case of Ubiribo, who died in March after receiving a cosmetic procedure involving hyaluronic acid filler at a clinic in Bangkok.
Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health has directed relevant agencies to examine whether the clinic complied with medical and professional standards.
The case has also been referred for further assessment of the medical practices involved.
Influencer died after suffering complications
Ubiribo, a 43-year-old content creator known as “Tiny” or “Ego”, underwent the cosmetic procedure in Bangkok on March 5.
He later experienced chest pain and collapsed.
He was taken to a hospital but lost consciousness before further examinations could be completed. Medical staff attempted to resuscitate him for more than 100 minutes before he was pronounced dead early the following day.
A subsequent UK inquest found that his death was linked to a pulmonary embolism following the hyaluronic acid injection.
Thai authorities inspect the clinic
Thailand’s Department of Health Service Support inspected the clinic in Bangkok’s Pathum Wan area after the case received public attention.
Officials collected information and evidence while examining whether the facility complied with relevant medical and service standards.
According to officials, the findings will be reviewed under Thailand’s legal and regulatory procedures and submitted to the Medical Council of Thailand for consideration of professional practice standards.
Clinic says Ubiribo had undergone previous procedures
The clinic told investigators that Ubiribo had been a patient since 2024 and had undergone several similar procedures before his final treatment.
According to the clinic’s account, the latest procedure involved 40cc of filler.
The clinic said its doctor had recommended splitting the treatment into two sessions, but Ubiribo chose to receive the full amount during one session.
The clinic also said he had signed consent forms and had received aftercare instructions.
These claims form part of the ongoing investigation and assessment by Thai authorities.
Health minister orders investigation
Public Health Minister Pattana Phromphat ordered the investigation, saying the case could affect public confidence in Thailand’s healthcare and medical services.
The government wants to determine whether all relevant standards and procedures were followed.
Authorities are examining the case to establish the facts and ensure fairness to all parties.
The investigation is also intended to maintain confidence among both Thai and foreign patients using medical services in the country.
