MANILA, Philippines — A passenger jeepney caught on video driving against the flow of traffic in Quezon City is now at the center of an investigation by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), with the vehicle’s franchise potentially facing suspension or revocation.
The LTFRB has issued a show-cause order to the jeepney operator following the circulation of a viral video showing the public utility vehicle allegedly counterflowing and putting other motorists at risk.
According to reports from The Philippine Star and INQUIRER.net, the operator was ordered to explain why the vehicle’s Certificate of Public Convenience should not be suspended or revoked. The case also raises questions about the driver’s conduct and the responsibility of public transport operators to ensure the safety of passengers and other road users.
Viral Video Prompts Swift LTFRB Action
The incident gained the attention of authorities after footage of the jeepney circulated online. The LTFRB said its action was prompted by the viral video, highlighting once again how social media has become an important tool in reporting alleged traffic violations.
